03-21-21 – Outta Dodge

I haven’t posted in a couple weeks. I started a new job where I’ll have a 2 week on 1 week off schedule. It’s been a bit of an adjustment. It my 1 day off I get in the middle of my 2 weeks of work. My muse, @martasaur came to visit me! We hung out with our friend Nate for the day of whom is being a super awesome dude and giving me place to stay while I’m working at my new job in Kamloops!

I’d like to do more art, and I know I will on my week off. But today I made a very stylize self portrait!

03-08-21 – Best Boy

Today marks one full year of sitting down and drawing something every day. I figured what would be better to draw than what I started this year long challenge in the first place. So here is a good an honest portrait of my best friend, Jesse.

I wish I had left more time in the day to work on this. Now after a year of building this habit, I hope to work on more detailed art projects that involve a little effort every day.

03-03-21 – Puff Wisely

Character Description: This is Puff Wisely, a kind hearted necromancer. Puff has a unique method of smoking a small portion of the remains of the dead so that he may communicate beyond the vale of the living. He uses he high levels of empathy and charisma to find out what unfinished business restless spirits have. This provides him with a large catalog of quests to fill his time, so that the dead can truly move forward into the afterlife.

I stepped way outta my comfort zone by trying to paint this with oils. Painting is something that I want to get better at. I’m by no means 100% happy with how the painting turned out. I think it’s a far too muddy looking and oils is just not a medium I’m experienced with yet. But I had fun with it anyway.

03-02-21 – Not to code.

I tried to do a similar style drawing as the one I did last night but with plumbing instead of electrical. I didn’t have a reference or very much time to draw tonight so it doesn’t look very good, but I just need to get the idea outta my head.

This was a color practice for character that I was thinking about painting. After some thinking, I’d like to work on my painting skills a little bit more before tackling the types of details and textures I’d like to implement into the design.

My best friend (who is an electrician) is renoing his bathroom and I’ve been helping him out with the plumbing. Tonight Jesse said I should do my drawing on the inside on of the drywall. This is hidden in the wall that houses the electrical panel and the Bathtub. A little surprise for next people who rip open the wall

I recreated a poster from the 2012 Dredd Movie but with a more saturated color that matches the comic counterpart.

This is just a quick 35 minute sketch. I’ve been thinking about the Dark Father of a far, far away galaxy a lot lately. I didn’t leave myself much time for art today but that’s okay as long as I make something!

This is just a more challenging tone study done on my ReMarkable 2 Tablet. I think I’d do some things differently approaching this again but I feel like I’m learning lots from these studies.

02-14-21 – My Valentine

This is a quick 1 hour sketch of @martasaur in the bath. The second sketch is the same sketch with the same reference photo, but done 11 months ago. The second sketch I worked on for about an hour and a half before I deemed it a failure. I was so embarrassed with the outcome when I first did it. I didn’t even post it. I actually did a totally different sketch of Marta that day (03-12-20) to post instead.

I remember feeling so frustrated back then with my skill level. I wasn’t thinking about the fact I’m a totally self taught artist. Or that I do art for fun and to relax. Now I find myself trying to do things way more ambitious than my skill level just for the fun of it. It was Marta, my Valentine that said “Just draw something else.” – I was only 4 days into my daily sketch idea and even though I already felt like giving up, Marta was nothing but encouraging.

I’m coming close to my goal of 1 year of daily sketches. After that I plan to focus on bigger art projects that I can spend more time on… My art wouldn’t have improved at all this past year if it wasn’t for Marta’s support. You are my muse. Thank you for always getting my back, calming me down, and keeping me focused on the things that are truly good for me.

02-13-21 – Trying to think outside the box…

This is just a rough 50 Minute sketch. I’ve had this idea floating around in my head the last few days. I think it would make a really cool painting if I worked on it a bit more and fleshed it out. Thoughts?

I did a quick sketch of a derpy General Grievous. While I was drawing him, I was thinking about what animals could have had some inspiration in the design of Grievous. Then I started to think about what animal he most acts like. I’ve been rewatching The Clone Wars animated series. If you really think about it based on the first 3 seasons, he acts a lot like a baboon

This awkward looking drawing is of Hidekazu Tojo. The creator of the California Roll. He created the California Roll in Vancouver. I was today years old when I learnt this as @martasaur I made California Rolls at home for dinner tonight. I also learnt it was Hidekazu Tojo’s Brithday today so I did a very poorly executed study of him

This is a redraw of a drawing I made back on April 26th of 2020 – I’ve become much more brave with my use of color and this was made in a much bigger sketchbook than the original. The mermaid also seems to have a much more calm expression oppose to the original that felt more apathetic. I feel like both are pretty representative of my mental state at the time of drawing them too. In any case, it was a fun study to gauge how much I’ve improved in the 9 months between this and the original. Will tumblr take this down because of the boobs or is it okay because it’s art?

01-30-21 – Oni Hunter

I was a little ambitious with this drawing. It’s not rendered out the way I wanted, but I can’t expect too much from a single sitting drawing. I don’t normally draw full scenes cause…well I’m not very good a perspective and foreshortening and other fundamentals that I keep negating. I may start to make that more of a focus of my study’s. I also only used the colors that I’ve used the least out of my pastel set to make this lol
