A few new pieces going up on Etsy this weekend. In Edinburgh (well over a year ago now… yikes time flies) I looked up my closest related clan in all the many tourist shops, as one must. My great grandmother was a Matheson, and the motto on the heraldry I found is “Fac et Spera”- which translates to “Act and Hope” or “Do and Hope.” Which seemed like quite a good motto adopt.

A favorite result from my recent adventures into sewing. The pattern is “Modern Born Zipper Pouch” by @kzstevens from @makingzine No. 6 and then I went… a bit extra with the stitching. I really love the sashiko style used in the pattern, though I don’t tend to stick very rigidly to the to the traditional method. I definitely want to play with it some more. (Also! another fun way to use speckled yarn )

Pro tip: when working with yarn or other fiber that needs blocking, don’t waste money on blocking mats. Just get a cheap pack of interlocking foam pads in the kid’s department. Only costs a few bucks and works exactly the same.

It’s been awfully quiet at Knotted Yarns headquarters. But quiet doesn’t mean unproductive. I’ve had a lot of people tell me how much they like what I do and then balk at the prices (which are comparatively low). Here is what you are paying for: hours and hours of designing and charting. Measuring angles and figuring dimensions. Testing out how different yarn looks, stretches, and measures depending on the stitch, making each test sample stitch by stitch only to find that it won’t work and you have to scrap and redesign. This can go on for days and weeks and you still don’t really know if it’ll work until you put the time in to do it. So THAT is what you are paying for when you buy handmade.
