LIVE

I found this great footage from the behind the scenes of Warcraft, which I worked on as a scenic sculptor, between 2013-14.
I’ve edited the footage a little so that the cuts between different shots now have fades and are less abrupt, and have also attributed the majority of the weapons and armour design and construction to my former company, Weta Workshop, who were not mentioned at all in the previous version of the video.
You can see some of the pieces that Weta created on their websitehere.

Below 1: Shooting in the enormous throne room.

Emily Blunt on the Late Show

Emily Blunt,Charlize just busts in,FUCK HOLLYWOOD,FANG IT,no but honestly,it is such an unfortunate thing that movies in the early 2000’s with female leads did so poorly, that set the tone for the next decade,Tomb Raider 2 pretty much single handedly dropped the bomb on female leads, poor AJ she tried,at the end of the day though it’s all a money game,if you can’t make the bucks,Hollywood won’t pony up,it’s as much the audience’s fault as anyones,AHEM,looks at Tumblr, and it’s lack of appreciation for female characters, yup, see how it plays into the hands of Hwood, even MMFR didn’t do nearly as well as it should have, bass rants too much in tags. (via bassfanimation)

Okay, but…regarding bassfanimation’s tags:

I don’t, in fact, think that the problem starts with the audience. It’s a straight up myth that movies with female leads do worse at the box office. The Center for the Study of Women in Television & Film at San Diego State University found that movies with male and female leads grossed about the same when you controlled for total budget (ie. if movies with male leads had higher grosses, it was because they had bigger budgets to begin with–more advertising, opening on more screens, etc.)

More recent data has shown an even more favorable box office landscape for female-led films. In 2013, the year of Frozen,Catching FireandGravity,female-led films outgrossed male-led films handily, both in the US and internationally. Frozen was the top-grossing film in the world that year and is the highest-grossing animated film of all time. When you divide the total gross by the number of movies in a franchise, the Hunger Games franchise is more successful than Harry Potter, Star Wars, Jurassic Park, the Marvel Cinematic Universe, Lord of the Rings, Transformers, Fast and Furious…in fact, it has a higher average box office gross than every recent US movie franchise except the two Avengers films.

And yet, even though the economic data is there IN ABUNDANCE that films starring women can make a crapton of money, only 15% of lead characters in movies in the US were female in 2014. The reason why is both complicated and simple–I could talk a lot about the complicated feedback loop between what studios think is going to be profitable (based on sexist assumptions and not actual data); what projects agents think they can sell and how that filters down to what writers write; how fewer roles for women means fewer chances for talented actresses to get noticed and become designated as the kind of A-list stars that will make a studio feel confident to greenlight a movie when they’re attached; how lower pay, lack of interesting work and rampant sexism means women both in front of and behind the camera are more likely to drop out of the film industry instead of staying in long enough to become successful. But the short answer is that it’s just sexism.

And then what happens is an example of the scarcity problem. There are so many more movies with male leads that when one bombs, no one considers it a statement on the capacity of male characters to draw an audience. It’s just an unsuccessful movie. But every female-led movie is carrying the impossible weight of proving that any female-led movie can be successful. So when you have a movie that’s maybe okay but marketed poorly, or a movie that’s just bad–and hey, lots of Hollywood studio movies are!–that becomes proof that women can’t draw an audience instead of just proof of it being an unprofitable movie.

Welp, so much for the prediction that he and Chris could host within a few years as the ultimate Oscars gimmick.

Two genuine apologies and he resigned from the academy. But it’s just not enough for these people.

All his projects are on hold. Deals are on hold. Now he can’t attend the Oscars for ten years.

I’ve never witnessed anyone in Hollywood actually be punished by Hollywood until now.

Just so we’re clear: Jim Carey forcibly kissed a teenage Alicia Silverstone without her consent at an awards show. Was not punished. Adrien Brody forcibly kissed Halle Berry at an award show without her consent. Also was not punished. John Wayne had to be physically held back from attacking Sacheen Littlefeather at the Oscars. Was not punished. Roman Polanski was given an Oscar in abstention because if he came to collect the award in person, he would have been arrested due to his conviction for statutory rape. Was not removed from the academy until 2018. Casey Affleck was given an Oscar shortly after he was accused to sexual harassment. Woody Allen has been nominated and awarded several times by the academy despite allegations of molestation being public since the 1990s.

Should’ve punched him.

Anyway, stop playing into spoiler culture, you will feel happier I promise.

I’m not saying “just stop getting upset if you get something spoiled”. You’re in your full right to feel upset and disappointed that you got spoiled something that you wanted to experience firsthand. That’s something reasonable to be upset about.

But now that companies have been playing into the whole “avoid spoilers at all costs” thing for the last few years, you really should consider who monetarily benefits from promoting a cultural climate where you feel like you have to consume every media product you’re interested in as soon as humanly possible because otherwise every second you spend not having consumed it is a second you spend at risk of having it “ruined” by having something revealed to you. And that should make you question if spoilers really deserve the place they occupy in current pop culture as The Worst Thing That Can Ever Happen To a Piece of Media You Want To Consume.

Like, it’s okay. If you get spoiled it’s understandable to be mad about it but a story that’s worth experiencing is still worth experiencing after you know the Big Twist.

^^^^ THIS

Spoiler culture is literally the movies equivalent of preordering videogames imo

It says the studio can push the worse shit out and still make a profit bc people are so busy avoiding spoilers they’ll go see the thing before the reviews are out–or even just steer clear of the reviews to make sure to avoid spoilers :/

My appearance on the TV show En ligne at Télé-Québec, broadcasted on February 16, 2022. Filming was done on October 30 in my little neighborhood in Montreal.

So yeah, I was the victim of a love cyber fraud this last summer which cost me quite a bit thank you. I share my story to Mehdi hoping to raise awareness about this kind of fraud.

Do your research: tell yourself that if it looks too good, it’s probably a scam! I’m glad to see that there are fraudsters who do get caught. I can finally turn the page on this dark period of my life!

So happy to be reunited with my main man Steeven Laing on a UDA film set today! Some think about their dreams, some realize them. Let’s root for each other and watch each other grow!

Ouch! Wait a minute, I know a very good hospital where I can get this treated; Thanks doctor! Last March, I was back on set of a popular TV show which is now in its third season. Two days continuity too, I really enjoyed it!

“As well as his talent and beauty, River was famous for seizing any opportunity to discuss vegetarianism and the environment with often bemused entertainment reporters. [Samantha Mathis] told me that, while River loved the work and the opportunities to talk about his beliefs, he hated the “industry bullshit”, and his relationship with success was complicated.” — The Guardian [Nov, 2019]
