This cartoon reminds me of my 20 year old grand-nephew. He decided to attend the Trump Rally on January 6, 2021. AND his father and brother decided to join him.

WTF!

When I asked his mother, my niece, if it was true, she avoided answering. She calls herself a conservative Catholic yet she’s fine with Trump as a roll model even tho he’s been divorce multiple times and accused my many women of misappropriate conduct. She’s ¼ Mexican but she’s fine with Trump calling Mexicans rapists and criminals.

I guess I never really knew who my niece is… nor what are her values. I haven’t spoken to her since… I may never.

They are so disgusting and not even trying to hide it anymore

#TrumpTaxScam is blowing a hole in the budget, much faster, and much bigger than projected.

That $1.3 trillion addition to the deficit is going to be small potatoes compared to what will really happen.

Paul Ryan and Mitch McConnell wrote the tax bill in secret, and rushed voting as to not expose the horrible policies.

Barley a month in and the deficit is blowing up.

I just got my first paycheck of the year, and the tax cuts have kicked in.  All in all, I’m getting a little less than $2k a year more than I did last year.  And that money isn’t free.  It’s money that we’re going to be paying off for decades.  It’s money that should be going to help people who need it.

Don’t get me wrong - after a solid year of being painfully broke, I’m thrilled to have some breathing room.

But…not at this price.

my take home pay will be about $520 more than last year.

$520.

absolutely nothing in the GOP tax plan is worth that. I would happily give it back to close this pandora’s box of theirs

Okay, I’ve seen a lot of people claiming that Biden is somehow responsible for the baby formula shortage. You’re looking at the wrong president.

I’ve attached a picture of the man responsible below.

It’s a fun picture of Trump with some other suits surrounded by piles of paper cutting a ribbon with a gold pair of scissors. This was to represent cutting regulations. This was the point where everyone who’s ever worked in a lab started screaming.

See, those regulations weren’t there because OSHA agents were bored and wanted to slap fines on people. They’re there because people got hurt.

These were laws that said don’t put workers around radioactive materials without hazmat suits–caused by the Radium Girls ingesting radium daily and daily. Don’t leave meat out for hours on end and don’t just pick maggots off–Upton Sinclair’s The Jungle is about the meat packing industry and how unsanitary it was. Workers have to wear helmets where falling is a risky–helmets reduced death and paralysis. Use vents and fume hoods to move gases away from workers–look at all the people with different cancer from breathing in Lord knows what. Provide a fire escape and don’t lock workers in–146 people died in the Triangle Shirtwaist Fire. Don’t dump waste into the waterway–the Cuyahoga River literally caught fire. Don’t produce medical equipment in unsterilized factories with unsterilized equipment–the Dalkon Shield caused millions of infections because it was made in a repurposed Chapstick factory with no sterilization (among other things).

These laws are written in blood.

Every single regulation that is part of the EPA, OSHA, the FDA, and the DOJ is there because people were grievously injuried or died. They’re not there for fun. You might say that this is all common sense stuff but right now Amazon is tallying work place injuries faster than a textile factory at the start of the industrial revolution. Tesla refused to paint orange lines around machines, delineating where it was safe to stand. History tells us that capitalists will put profits first, worker safety be damned.

Now I haven’t read the very, very long list of all the regulations that Mr. Trump decided was worth getting rid of. I don’t think he read that list. But I’m guessing that there was a law about sterilizing equipment for food, maintenance for equipment, and/or consistent inspections that suddenly Abbott Laboratories no longer had to follow. And just like so many other big companies, they decided to put the profit over babies’ lives.

Capitalism is the monster here, and this wouldn’t have happened if one company didn’t have a monopoly on making baby formula. But regulations were a muzzle on that monster and they kept rampant capitalism somewhat in check. With that gone, this is what happens. It’s only a matter of time before we lose another important commodity because regulations were erased.

I remember the day this picture came out, and having worked in the food industry my whole life I knew it was going to lead to disaster…

Tuesday’s school shooting in Texas is now the fourth deadliest school shooting in modern U.S. history.

It is infuriating that those who have the power to act and save lives are too afraid of the gun lobby to do anything to end this uniquely American epidemic.

We know it can feel hopeless when senseless acts of violence like these happen on a routine basis while our leaders seemingly sit by and watch. But, Leslie, there are actionable steps you can take right now to make a difference.

  1. Call your Senators. Several bills to close gun sale loopholes, like H.R. 1446 which would stop licensed gun sales going through before a required background check is done, and bills that would otherwise help combat gun violence are stalled in the Senate. By making your voice and outrage heard, you can help push your elected officials toward enacting change now. The U.S. Capitol Switchboard can connect you with your representatives’ offices: (202) 224-3121
  2. Donate to a victims’ fund. VictimsFirst, a non-profit that connects surviving victims of mass casualty crime with resources, has set up a victims’ fund for people affected by the Robb Elementary School shooting in Texas.
  3. If you’re in Texas, or know someone there, consider donating blood. University Health, a teaching hospital in San Antonio where at least four victims are receiving treatment, is accepting blood donations.

These school shootings can have a heavy psychological toll on our children, and force families to have difficult conversations no parent should have to have with their children. Below are some resources for talking about gun violence with children:

Additional resources:

We do not have to accept these horrific acts of violence as routine. And we must keep demanding that our leaders not only acknowledge this devastating problem, but also take long overdue action to keep our children and our communities safe.

90 minutes, 90 fucking minutes. They saved their own children, arrested and tased civilian parents trying to save their kids, and waited because they were “afraid of being shot”… but I’m supposed to back the blue right?

ACAB, FUCK THE POLICE !

No longer is this about the rights of students to access books. It’s now about the rights of private businesses to sell books. Anderson suggests this is a new avenue for parents to fight.

“We are in a major fight. Suits like this can be filed all over Virginia. There are dozens of books. Hundreds of schools,” he said.

Holy shit this is a BIG FUCKING WARNING SIGN. Challenges to school and public libraries aren’t cool obviously, but they’re not unusual and we have a framework for handling them. This is something new and alarming in a whole new way

Republican “free speech” y'all and don’t you forget it.

This is a direct challenge to the freedom of the press and if it isn’t struck down at the first hurdle we need to make sure it never sees the second one.

On the miniscule off-chance that anyone who sees my reblog might be thinking “oh, it’s just queer books that they’re trying to ban” - A Court of Mist and Fury is a het romance. It is a het romance containing het sex scenes, written by a straight white woman.

People have been warning all along that the right-wing thought police were never going to stop with queer lit or ‘woke’ lit, and that every time they got an inch they were going to take a mile until they’d banned absolutely everything that didn’t conform to their strict right wing fundamentalist Christian views. If you were waiting for proof of that, here it is.

angelsaxis:

This country claims to be democratic but 9 unelected people who’s values and opinions formed decades prior, who can get into this position without strong or even any valid credentials, can decide to negatively impact or even destroy millions of lives and they cannot be held accountable for it. They can’t be impeached or voted out. It’s only the most convoluted combination of election-year voting, voter suppression/lack thereof, and idk fucking cowardice from both sides that got any of them to where they are now. 9 people who are cemented in their beliefs and then use the law and constitution to justify their moral opinions that they insist don’t influence their rulings at all. We can’t vote then out. We just have to hope they retire or die under the presidency of someone who doesn’t want to actively kill everything, and eve then we have to contend with any given republican or spineless Democrat in the Senate.

And even then, we cannot get rid of them. Nine people make decisions for 300+ million, affecting their ability to defend themselves, to live peacefully, to lead healthy and happy and safe lives. Nine people can ruin lives for decades to come.

Nine people. Nine. People.
