So March marked the 60th anniversary of “The Creature from the Black Lagoon”. I decided to put my meager sculpting and latex skills to the test and make the entire costume. I learned a lot making this 1 costume. Some costumes are sprints and some are marathons.

With the Creature from the Black Lagoon being my absolute fave universal monster, doing a gill man piece was inevitable. I might revisit this for some colors sometime down the line…

The Longing of the Creature~
This is based off the classic Black n White Univeral Monster Film “The Creature from the Black Lagoon”, my favorite of all the classic Monster Movies
It took several days to complete, but I couldn’t be more pleased with the end result. I hope you guys like it too~

It initially looks like the gill man is kidnapping her, but look more closely, she was in the water unconscious. The gill man is saving her, not kidnapping her.

Detail of the Creature prosthetic.
The prosthetic was hand sculpted by me, and painted with the Kryolan Cream Color Circle in “Creature Feature” and Aquacolor Liquid.
Our creative team here at Kryolan City Chicago was given a task from corporate: Create a classic Halloween character with one of our palettes. For this challenge, I decided to use the Kryolan Cream Color Circle in “Creature Feature” to bring forth this “Creature from the Black Lagoon” inspired monster.
The prosthetic was sculpted, cast and painted by me using Kryolan liquid latex and painted with the Kryolan Cream Color Circle and Kryolan Aquacolor Liquid as a base.
This Creature was heavily inspired by both the Gill Man from Creature from the Black Lagoon and the Amphibian Man from The Shape of Water.
