“Myosotis is a very hardworking girl, but she also hates her scientific studies. One night, she discovers a magic shop off a small alley, and she meets an apprentice witch there.”

I worked on this short film, which is my graduation film, for a year! It is also a pilot for a more ambitious project that I’ve had in mind since a few years.

Some backgrounds I painted for my graduation film <3 

This month, you’ll be able to listen to the music of J’attends la nuit on your favourite streaming platform! The EP will include the film score composed and reworked by Arthur Dairaine with additional new tracks (including unused themes) from him and The Option.

I can’t wait for you to get to hear all the amazing work showcased on this!

A little in depth for the different props designed for J’attends la nuit (I wait for the night). The fly has different level of details depending on how close we were going to see it in the film. I also had to design an iPhone screen to fit the overall graphic style. I could have gone for a complete imaginative phone interface, but since I wanted the film to be grounded in the actual world, I choose to go with an iPhone.

Damien’s turn now! He’s the other character of my graduation film J’attends la nuit (I wait for the night). Again, from fashion researches, expressions to the final turnaround I used in the film, here is all the work I’ve done to find his look.

Here is the full colorscript of my graduation film J’attends la nuit (I wait for the night). I also put the first color sketches I did for some sequences, including a lot of different explorations for the lake setting.

I ended up reusing, upscaling, retracing and adding details to some of the boards for the final backgrounds.

Concept arts for J’attends la nuit (I wait for the night), my graduation film still available on @vimeo. I was figuring out the mood, tone and effects that I will use later in the backgrounds and during the compositing process. All of these were done just before making the actual colorscript. Has you can see, Damien still hadn’t his final design yet.

So here it is! J’attends la nuit (I wait for the night), my graduation film made at Gobelins and CalArts is finally available on Vimeo and YouTube!

I started working on this film in August 2017 and it’s been a crazy journey ever since. I hope you’ll enjoy, it’s a very personal film and I put a lot of passion into it. I’ll never be thankful enough to all the people who helped me make this project come to life, especially my actors, David Chausse and Jordan Rezgui, my composer Arthur Dairaine and my wonderful sound designer Nadège Feyrit. Thank you for following me on this insane ride.

Early Simon sketches for my graduation film J’attends la nuit (I wait for the night). Head/hair researches and clothing exploration. He’s the main character of the short film, not very talkative and always mysterious.

Concepts made during the preproduction of my graduation film J’attends la nuit (I wait for the night). The main focus here was the light. Finding how it could indicate some surrounding elements (trees, sport field) without actually seeing them in the frame. What’s hidden and what’s visible are two notions that play a huge part in the film.
