This King comes indeed, an imperishable spirit, adorned with Anubis on the neck, who presides over the Western Height.
This is a Wrs scepter / Wos scepter because of the jackal head. WAs scepters were symbolistic objects “held by gods to show Their authority, Their power, or Their strength, or a combination of all three. There are was-scepters that were occasionally used by kings; a number of them were buried in the tomb of Nisut Tutankhamen for example. Usually however this is a strictly ceremonial object.”

Scarabs are engraved stones representing the Scarab beetle (Scarabaeus sacer), which rolls each of its eggs in a ball of mud and may be seen on sandy slopes in the hot sunshine of Egypt; rounding the pellet by pushing it backwards uphill with its hind legs, and allowing it to roll down again. The ancient Egyptian compared this living germ to the sun, which brings matter into life, and the Scarab became the symbol of creation, and sacred to their Sun-god, Khepera. It was their custom as far back as 4,600 years B.C. to bury these engraved Scarabs with their dead, and frequently one was placed in the heart itself. It was an emblem of re-creation, and symbolized this evolution of the soul through eternity.

Uwielbiam cykl Joanny Karpowicz o Anubisie i nie jestem w tym odosobniona, o czym świadczy udana zbiórka na Kickstarterze, której efektem jest wyjątkowy album zawierający Anubisowe prace powstałe w latach 2012-2020. Album jest duży i naprasdę porządnie wydany przez timof comics - zarówno pod względem jakości papieru, jak i druku. Wreszcie można dostrzec Anubisa na obrazie „Spoon River”, co było niemal niemożliwe w albumiku wydanym kilka lat temu przez Centralę. Jest więc malarski rozmach, jest ciekawy wstęp Imogen Osborne, w którym sugeruje, by popatrzeć na prace Karpowicz przez pryzmat lockdownu. Takie spojrzenie jeszcze mocniej podkreśla samotność obecną na tych obrazach, nadając jej dodatkowy wymiar.
Samotność, mrok, światło niby obecne, ale nieosiągalne, dręczący niepokój i przeczucie, że tylko chwila dzieli postaci z obrazów od jakiegoś końca, bo w cieniu już czeka on - spokojny, milczący Anubis, bóg śmierci.

ZOE was one of my very fist games on the PS2, I bought it specifically because it had the “Metal Gear Solid 2” demo disc included. But cool mechs were always a bonus.
Almost every painting I do, I plan on potentially making into a 2 or 3 piece set. I don’t know if that came from selling art (bundles always sell well) or if I just like painting “series” rather than one off pieces. I finished the Anubis painting a while back and am happy to finally have this finished and together as a pair. (Available online my store as well, link in bio)
