And some more fantasy! This is the painted side of my empire army for Age of Sigmar/Warhammer Fantasy, and currently my only army for the system (I had ogres/Giants painted to go with my empire as mercs and a high elf army though unfortunately neither are mine any more through trades and being lost in moves). I started collecting them back in 6ed with the Empire vs Orcs starter set. Some of the models (see spearmen, swordsmen and handgunners) were painted then when I was about 13 years old and are just…just not good. Then there was a gap of about 8 years before I started them up again with some more state troops, greatswords, a cannon, and some wizards. Someday I’ll bring them all up to the same standard but they fit together well enough for now.

The army did have a large reserve of incoming reinforcements (built but not painted) in the form of 6 demigryff knights, Karl franz on deathclaw, a few more wizards, 40 more state troopers, and 4 more artillery pieces (a mortar, two hell blasters, and a hellstorm battery) but they were all in a box that somehow didn’t survive a move and (though he denies they are my models) are now in a former roommate army…

I don’t mind age of sigmar and it is great for a laid back and stress free type of game but I must say I miss old fantasy. It had its problems, sure, but being the history nerd that I am, I loved seeing my blocks of troops carefully positioned to intercept the enemy’s charge in true Landsknecht atire. Sadness

So, as of yesterday it’s official: I can no longer play Switch Axe in Generations. Actually, I can - I just don’t care to. World’s heavily refined and improved iteration of my favorite weapon of all-time has spoiled me and ruined my pre-World SA repertoire and I have no desire to go back to it. GenU’s SA is a wet noodle, in comparison. And while I’ve grown quite fond of my Silverwind LBG and the gunning style of gameplay, I’ve acquired a new love in GenU: the one and only Great Sword. You can’t get any more “Monster Hunter” than the GS: the original big boy of pain. It’s so satisfying to crunch body parts… I’ve sorely missed lobbing off tails. (It’s what I live for.) GenU? GS/LBG. Everything else? Switch Axe for life.
