Waaaaaaaait This photo embodies how much fucks I don’t give to naysayers. To Islamaphobes. To people who like to comment on how I promote obesity and fat shame me regularly, saying I’d be much cuter if I was ‘smaller’. To the people who say I’m not Muslim enough. To the people who slide into my inbox saying how they wanna do lunch but wasn’t with me when I was down, out, and had no self-worth but now find me 'of value’ now that I got a little media play. To the people who told me that there was enough writers already and to get a 'real’ job. To the people who used to be my friends but went ghost because of their own insecurities. And to the folks that just plain don’t like me because I slay super easily. Heeeeeey Photo: @remy_me Model: Leah Vernon Turban: @flossyssuitcase

When I first embarked on this blogging journey, I never thought I’d be so blessed to meet the people I have or be able to travel to the places I want to go. There was a time when I used to write in private and wouldn’t ever dream of sharing personal stories or talk about religion or feminism. I wouldn’t dare take photos and post them out of fear of glorifying the fat body and being shamed. People would call me Mimi from Drew Carey and ask me why I wore so many colors for a fat girl. I was called weird and different. Made to feel bad. So I hid my talents. But once in a while, my true self would pop out. Yesterday, I told my friend, “If I allowed those people who bullied me to tell me to be who I wasn’t, I wouldn’t be Leah V. right now.” Blogging saved me. Gave me confidence. You guys give me life and the courage to keep going. My goal is to go as far as a fat Muslim girl from Detroit can go. I’m on my mogul tip this year. Despite, the current climate of foolery going on in this world. That’s definitely not gonna stop me from elevating. Go harder. Fight harder. And be you. *Birdman handrub* photo: @_its__jess

Last week, I was feeling very Black Panther-ish. I kept seeing shit. Hearing shit. These so-called patriotic trolls are constantly focused on the wrong damnthing When a Gorilla got killed. Oh, people was outraged. Dog abuse? Oh, they were on it. #45 says dumb shit, it’s justified. Wypipo waving around tiki torches from Party City and running over equality protesters… They have that ‘right’.

So, Kaepernick is 'unpatriotic’ because he takes a knee during the national anthem Did y'all forget what this country is built upon The backs of Blacks and Natives The blood of slaves Genocide Rape We were still slaves when that anthem was created. GTFOH.

As an American, you gonna make me stand for a song that wasn’t even meant for me? What happened to the land of the free? I guess we’re only free and able to express freedom of speech when they say so…
But one thing I love about 2017, is that WE are more vocal than ever. Nah, I’m not my grandfather or my grandmother. I’m not my mama. This is a new generation where we’re gonna call bullshit.

I’m not explaining anything to supremacists, low-key or high-key racists. And nor should you. You’re wasting your breath. They’ll never get it which is fine, but keep that hatred and them tiki torches over there

I’ve wanted to do this parody for soooooo long ever since I saw a comedian do a different version… Here’s a snippet of “S**t White Girls Say to Muslimahs”

Unfortunately a lot of these questions are ones I’ve actually been asked, and a few I added for comedic relief because I’m extra. So, fight me.

Muslimahs, y'all know what I’m talking about.

What are some questions you have gotten that made you go ugggggh?

On the blog, we get real raw. I talk about my struggle with hijab and soooo much other stuff. Excerpt below to entice you. My hijabis and non-hijabis and people who’ve always been curious about the hijab let’s discuss.

“For me, growing up, the hijab was so closely connected to the identity of being a Muslim woman. We looked down upon girls who didn’t opt to wear the hijab. We called them weak. Ostracized them. Questioned their faith and asked what was so hard about wearing it. I mean, hadn’t they loved Allah? We had been conditioned to predict whether or not you were a ‘good’ Muslim based on a cloth that covered your hair and neck. I fell into that trap, that mentality, until I was faced with the same challenge: to wear or not to wear.”
