Howard Stern’s Daughter Became Orthodox ; Wells of Miriam
Like most people on planet earth, I’ve known who Howard Stern is for years, though, I’ve never really listened to his show or watched more than an occasional clip of “America’s Got Talent.” Then my friend Mayim Bialik was interviewed on his radio show last year and, of course, I had to hear it. What struck me most about their conversation was Mayim explaining Jewish ideas to Howard – like mikvah and modesty – publicizing these mitzvos to millions of his listeners. Howard challenged Mayim, wanting to know why she covers up so much – unlike most actresses in Hollywood – and Mayim explained that her body belongs to her, not Hollywood. Apparently, Howard was so struck by this idea that the next morning when he started his show he referenced it.
Howard Stern didn’t cross my mind again until a couple months ago, when I stumbled upon a poet whose work is featured in the LA Jewish Journal. A line in one of her poems jumped out at me “Why in the world why in the heavens when God says find a mate, Adam never stops to say, You, God. Us. ” It was so profound, I wanted to hear more. So I started clicking through to read more of her work and as I read, I got to an article which explained who her dad was. I was fascinated! Howard Stern’s daughter became an Orthodox Jew?! I reached out to her, we had a wonderful coffee meeting and told her I’d love to share her story and her art with the world.
i am sick and tired of seeing posts suggesting that both wearing the hijab and being half naked is empowering for women. empowerment is “the giving or delegation of power or authority”.
the meaning of the hijab and other muslim coverings is the very definition of rape culture and victim blaming. what power or authority does a woman get by wearing a symbol which suggests that she should cover her body so men won’t sexually assault her?
what power or authority does a woman get by wearing oversexualized clothes which are literally designed to satisfy the male gaze? none. both panders to male desires. both is the exact opposite of empowerment and female liberation.
you are not woke or intersectional, you are rebranding misogynistic bullshit as empowerment.
Why is everything with tznius advice only for women? I want to dress tznius but telling me blouses and flowing skirts isn’t useful and everywhere with advice on dressing that way when it’s hot assumes you’re a woman and not trying to wear pants

AsAlgy surveyed his assistants’ garden from a branch of a silver birch tree, he noticed an interesting phenomenon on the ground some distance away. Fluttering over to that spot, Algy settled himself gently on the damp grass among the long autumn shadows, taking great care not to crush the myriad wee fungi which had sprung up beneath the trees.
Algy was fascinated by toadstools: they seemed to appear overnight for no apparent reason and quite often vanished again in an equally mysterious way. Although charming in their neat orange-brown dresses, these wee fungi were particularly modest and unassuming, and they reminded him of a quaint 19th century poem. Algy knew that many toads lived in his assistants’ garden, and he wondered whether that might perhaps account for the large number of toadstools…
