Dinner is from the Vegetarian stall in the recently opened food court in Sun Plaza. Here, you got mock sweet & sour pork, stir-fried gourd and a braised bean curd. The next box comes with preserved Chinese mustard (梅菜), stewed potato and mock curry chicken & potato.

Also from the same stall is this VegetarianRojak. I wondered what they substituted for the usual prawn paste used in making the sticky sauce here as this local snack tasted as good as the real McCoy.

Here’s something that I was trying out to have some fun. It was actually really fun but crazy hard. I love Cyberpunk.

some thoughts about the first episode of imitation, especially in comparison of the webtoon.

!!!! SPOILERS !!!! for both the webtoon and episode one of the drama below the cut! also trigger warnings for drugs and sexual assault/harassment !!

ONE MORE SPOILER ALERT. MAJOR WEBTOON SPOILERS, AS WELL AS GENERAL SPOILERS FOR THE EPISODE.

so, first off, things are definitely different. it seems like they’re going with a different route for eunjo compared to the drama, though i can’t exactly blame them. a dating scandal is a much easier pill to swallow than ryok’s brother manipulating him into a relationship with a woman and tricking him into becoming addicted to ecstacy, and thereby driving a wedge between eunjo and ryok specifically. 

now, before the series even started, hyunoh being in sparkling had me confused. if you’ve read the webtoon, you know that hyunoh is NOT a nice guy, and i was starting to wonder whether they were going to do anything with that storyline at all. however, his short scene with putting maha down points towards the fact that hyunoh is still an ass, but i suppose we’ll see how far they go with him, as his character did really awful things to female trainees–and tried to do something to maha, too.

then there’s the maha and ryok dynamic. i’m not gonna lie; i’m both not really that upset about the change, but at the same time, i’m disappointed. like, yeah, it’s not great that their change in relationship started in guilt on ryok’s part, it was an extremely crucial part of the story. the whole foundation of the story is: ryok hated maha, then he crossed a line without realizing it, and worked hard to make up for it. the scene where he improvises the scene to get a more realistic reaction out of maha, and the shot of ryok’s realization at the sight of maha crying because she was scared of him are very important. now, that being said, i don’t mind the way the drama is going, necessarily. we still have ryok clearly feeling sorry for hurting her by accident with his prop sword, so there’s still traces of that. 

and was i expecting them to add a ‘we met in the past’ twist to them? honestly, yes. this is a kdrama after all. do i mind it? not really, but we’ll see how it goes in the second episode. i just wish that there wasn’t just one episode a week, so that i could fully get a feel for the pacing.

i think my biggest disappointment is that it seems like they may have gotten rid of maha’s backstory? maha’s family story is incredibly central to maha as a character, as she doesn’t know what to do when she’s given love and attention, because she was literally never given it as a child. her grandfather’s tyranny kept her isolated from her parents and from most people, and it’s a big obstacle for her in terms of her relationship, as well as her career–both as an idol and as an actress.
