Lafayette Hajjar was an Andolucian operative, clandestine cell leader and intrinsic magician active

Lafayette Hajjar was an Andolucian operative, clandestine cell leader and intrinsic magician active during the height of the Cold War. A tactical genius with incredible arcane talent, she was infamous for her deadpan and apparently socially-stunted disposition. She saw action in various proxy wars, surviving and even winning engagements with other notorious mages of the era like Marietta Hildegard and Edward Montblanc. Official government records attribute over two-hundred solo magician kills to her, a figure that many speculate to be under-reported.

REPORT OF THE DAY.  I already have this established  in my rules but just in case ;- I only reference the OFFICAL TRANSLATION by dark horse for Trigun / Trigun maximum when it comes to manga content!

I have provided a link to read the official dark horse translation online in my rules! As most, if not all, search results turn up the scanlation version!

I do not in any way acknowledge or condone the scanlation (the scanlation I’m refereeing to is the one that features credit pages in association with #mangaproject / ‘A maximum 7 release’.)It is riddled with content not true to the original Japanese text (e.g. dialogue being inserted that was never there to begin with.) And parts of the scanlation are also based on the original magazine publishing for Trigun maximum which had numerous sequences  altered for the official releases and so, not the true canonical version of trigun!

The official by dark horse isn’t perfect, but is of superior quality automatically to the state of this fan scanlation. I say this with utmost honesty because this was how I experienced the manga and was left confused / disproving of the quality untill I learnt this was a un-official fan scanlation.

The only fan translation I am willing to acknowledge (or recommend) is the @trigun-manga-overhaul project! A translation project that desires to release the best possible version of the manga for fans to read. All Whilst respecting Nightows original vision and the original Japanese dialogue so as to do the manga justice! Please support this fan translation over the scanlation any day.

I WAS ALLOWED TO REBLOG THIS AS AN EXCEPTION. DO NOT REBLOG.

Friend of mine talking about the different translations in relation to their work. They run an amazing ask blog featuring both versions of Vash, from the anime and the manga. Please check out their work!

It is important to share the knowledge that the Scanlation is trash, but unfortunately is also the most read translation of the manga. So many fans out there have read this super inaccurate version, filled with enitrely made up dialogue and the writers forcing their shitty opinions onto the characters.

Having been the first to translate Trigun again after almost 20 years, it feels appropriate to announce that we’re going to be the first to cover completely untouched Trigun content, making it accessible to everyone!

We will be scanning and translating all of Trigun: Multiple Bullets! Only a few chapters are available online, for both the Official translation and a Scanlation. However, we’ll give all these chapters the full Overhaul treatment.

We are also going to cover Japanese Omnibus only extra content that has never been translated before!

In connection with this, it has come to our attention that in order to share Overhaul on other platforms, such as Mangadex, Mangakakelot, etc., we can not use pages made from the English version, meaning Overhaul as it stands now is not allowed on other platforms.

However, having made our first scans, we can say for certain that we can provide even better quality pages made from scans of the Japanese version of the manga. That would also allow us to upload Overhaul everywhere.

So from now on, we’ll do Overhaul all over again, cleaning and typesetting everything again with our new scans. Another three years, let’s goooo!

And let me tell you, the new scans are PHENOMENAL!

I (as in D, the project leader) have been working on these scans, testing new pages and cleaning them up. They have turned out amazing, much, much better than what we had before.

Here are a few examples:

Example one.

Example two.

Example three.

Roadmap for the Future

  • We’ll finish the original Overhaul as planned, releasing a chapter a week until it is finished.
  • We’ll begin work on Trigun: Multiple Bullets, hopefully to be ready for upload by the time the first Overhaul Friday run is done.
  • We’ll begin work on Overhaul 2.0 and begin uploading that once we are far enough ahead for a comfortable release schedule. More information on this in the future.
  • We’re still looking at Overhaul in different languages, having made a few test chapters in Spanish. Other languages we wish to cover in the future are: German, Russian and French.

THE FUTURE IS LOOKING GREAT FOR THE PROJECT! WE WANT TO THANK EVERYONE FOR THEIR SUPPORT!

Been seeing a lot of love for the Overhaul Project around lately and it’s just got me feeling really moved right now. It means so much to me as the project leader to see all this activity surrounding our work, people reading it or recommending it.

I began the project over three years ago with a desire to bring the best translation possible to everyone and to revive the fandom and community as a whole. I can certainly say I managed to do both and it fills me with tons of joy.

Current Status:

  • Raw translation: Completely finished!
  • Proof read script: Volume 12, chapter 08.
  • Lettering: Vol 12, chapter 04.

Upcoming Content:

We are already looking into what’s going to happen once all the chapters of Overhaul are released. We won’t say that Trigun Ultimate is quite done just yet.

After three years of work we have gained a lot of experience and new translating tools, all which helps improving the results of our work. With this we are planning to retranslate the entire manga again to fix and improve upon our existing script. We’re also going to rework some of the typesetting so that it lives up to our more recent standards. We also hope to add sound effect translations to the newer versions of Overhaul.

We are also looking into expanding the Overhaul version to cover other languages. Right now we are actively working on a Spanish version. We hope most of all to make a German and a Russian version.

Final Words

Just want to thank everyone for your love and support! I can promise that only good things are ahead for the project and we can’t wait to share our work with you all!

my book of weird email invitations is finally in print! so you don’t get your expectations up it’s basically just a collection of email invitations I have sent to my social mailing list, but lovingly typeset in LaTeX with bizarre annotations and occasional cartoons and a slightly apothecarial 1920s-inspired hand-drawn cover.

sorry the shipping costs more than the book

(conversely, I priced the book below the shipping!)

publishing infodump

“Publishing” my first “book” was a truly non-herculean effort that ran an inimitable week in the creating and three months in the waiting!

The inside is mostly text, plus a few simple line drawings that did not require high-quality printing. I was looking for an economical softcover B&W book between 4"x6" and 5"x7", with a page minimum less than 50, and no order minimum. I did the cover design and interior layout myself (LaTeX never ceases to be useful!), so I didn’t need any additional design or advertisement services. I didn’t immediately want an ISBN (because let’s be real, only my friends are going to buy this), but also didn’t want to rule out that option in the future. I would have loved a matte cover, but couldn’t find a suitable PoD printing service that offered matte softcovers.

This Medium post comparing several small-batch PoD printers was extremely informative. I researched just about every custom print service there is out there, and ended up going with Lulu primarily because they were the only PoD service offering a low-cost B&W option smaller than 5"x7". My main issue was spine misalignment, as my 48-page book had a spine 0.09" wide, which was (understandably) too close to the margin of alignment error to be usable. I ended up scrapping the spine design entirely in the third and final proof run. I thought Lulu’s turnaround time was a little slow, as it took close to 3 weeks to receive each run, but their customer service is fantastic and they replaced my first two botched runs at no cost.

If I publish any visually oriented content in the future (a photo book or glamour magazine of my cat is definitely on the table), I will likely go with Blurb. Their sample print pack has great photo quality and they seem to offer a good range of formats and quality for presenting different types of visual content.
