If Jackson Pollock were a rhino

What creative genius lies behind these eyes? More than just beauty, Doppsee’s got artistic flair!

Doppsee, resident black rhino and hopeful future mom at Potter Park Zoo, has graciously lent her artistic genius toward Fight for Rhinos Art Auction.

All of us at the Adolph and Esther Gottlieb Foundation extend our condolences to our colleagues at the Pollock-Krasner Foundation on the passing of its Chairman, Charles Bergman.

Charlie was a good friend to us and to individual artists around the world. He invested 37 years of his life building connections and developing policies that will continue to provide funding and recognition to artists. His contributions to the art world can be measured by the production of the many artists he and the Foundation helped support over the years.

We will miss his contributions to our field but mostly we will miss his unfailing good nature and generosity. Thank you, Charlie, for everything you’ve done.

Happy Birthday Rome!

New Yorkers can go to MOMA to see Jackson Pollock’s The She-Wolf in honor of Rome’s birthday today.

Although Pollock only stated that “She-Wolf came into existence because I had to paint it. Any attempt on my part to say something about it, to attempt explanation of the inexplicable, could only destroy it.” I still like to think he was referring to the foundation myth of Rome and the She-Wolf who raised Romulus and Remus, the legendary founders of Rome. It’s one of my favorite paintings by Pollock.

MOMA website has more detailed information about the work - http://www.moma.org/m/arts/78719

When faced with the task for a design class to make a fake magazine spread featuring the ‘soul’-made-image of a famous celebrity/author/politician/etc., how do you ignore always having that line hanging out in the back of your head?

Frank, it had to be you.

Background is Jackson Pollock’s Shimmering.

“Abstract painting is abstract. It confronts you. There was a reviewer a while back who wrote that my pictures didn’t have any beginning or any end. He didn’t mean it as a compliment, but it was. ”
