Took the Lawman Boss 429 engine to WesTech Performance Group in California a week or so ago with my good friend Brian Duffee. Brian’s shop, Duffee Motorsports, in Glendale Arizona had just completed a complete rebuild of the Lawman’s original 800 mile Boss 429 engine. Machinist Pat Deichert did a masterful job revitalizing the bottom end and Brian worked some magic on a pair of NOS Boss 429 heads to enable the motor to reach a rev limited peak HP of 854.1hp at 6600rpm and 704 lb/ft of torque at 5400rpm. At only 6600rpm and a max boost of 8.9lbs there’s way more in this motor. The curve just kept going up. No point pushing it further as it had already proved itself nicely.

Big Iron

“To the town of Agua Fria rode a stranger one fine day
Hardly spoke to folks around him, didn’t have too much to say
No one dared to ask his business, no one dared to make a slip
The stranger there among them had a big iron on his hip
Big iron on his hip”

This is an old drawing, from last year, I did based on the handsome ranger that Marty Robbins sings about in his song Big Iron.
For some reasons I’ve never posted it but since I’m still quite happy about it (not too much of the bg) why not to post it?

Notable:

Thomas teamed with two other deputy U.S. marshals, Chris Madsen and Bill Tilghman. They became known as the Three Guardsmen and were credited with bringing law and order to Indian Territory.

In August 1896, Thomas led a posse that tracked down and killed outlaw Bill Doolin.

In1902, Thomas was sent to Lawton, Oklahoma, where he was elected as the first police chief in the town. He served in that position for seven years until his health began to fail.
