라이카로 첫 작업은 생각보다 재밌었다. 조금 미숙했지만 사용하다보면 익숙해지지 않을까. 다음 촬영은 역시 흑백 필름으로 촬영할 예정이다. 모델을 구해야하는데 쉽지가 않다. 모델 구합니다.
작업물이 항상 똑같다.라는 소리를 들었다. 그럼 어떻게 해야하지?난 내 사진을 찍는거지 누군가에 취향에 맞는 사진을 찍는게 아니다.
새해가 시작됐다. 아직 실감은 안나지만 기대된다. 이천십구년에는 무슨 일이 생길까. 좋은일이 생기는 만큼 분명 나쁜일도 있을 거다. 경험상 보통 두 일은 비례한다. 어떻게 즐기고 극복하느냐에 따라 그해 삶이 바뀐다고 생각한다. 올해는 개인 작업을 조금더 꾸준히 해볼까 한다. 정말 존나 멋진 새해가 됐으면.
하루에 끝은 언제나 피곤하고 허무하다. 값진 하루를 보냈다 하더라도 침대에 눕는 순간 몰려오는 허무함은 이길 수 가없다. 목표라는 게 그렇다. 이루기 전에는 한없이 값질 거라 생각하는데 이룬 순간 허무하다. 내 것이 되었다고 생각하는 순간 맛없는 반찬이 되는 기분이다. 순간 맛있더라도 식어버리기 십상이다. 완벽한 목표는 없다. 끝이 없는 목표를 설정해라.
라이카 엠쓰리로 첫 작업을 신비가 도와줬다. 노출계 뇌출계 말이 많지만 난 뇌출계다. 결과도 생각보다 늘 괜찮게 나오니 만족한다. 사진도 몇년을 찍었는데 사실 이정도 노출도 못잡으면 감이 없는거라 보면 맞다. 첫 작업이자 첫 테스트인데 에이셉라키 테스팅이 티비 화면에 보였다. 딱 좋다. 아이엔쥐만 지우고 테스트만 찍기로했다.
두 어른은 무슨 생각을 하며 바다를 봤을까. 그들은 친구인가 형제인가. 시시콜콜한 가벼운 대화였으면.
여행은 늘 설레는 법이다. 이 주 전부터 검암에 살다 보니 여행객을 많이 본다. 본국으로 돌아가는 사람들과 돌아온 사람들. 그들의 얼굴은 조금은 상반된다. 아쉬움과 즐거움 정도. 난 여행을 딱 두 번 해봤다. 좋든 싫든 확실히 무언가를 얻는다. 물질적이든 아니든 성장하는 기분이다. 올해도 최소 두 번은 어디론가 가고 싶다.
새벽 네시 오십육분 커피를 마셨다. 잠들긴 글렀다고 봐야지. 어릴 때 바다라곤 찾을 수 없었던 시골에 살았다. 내가 처음 본 바다는 아마 고등학교 삼학년 수학여행이다. 것도 태풍으로 인해 발도 담그지 못했다. 그래서인지 난 어느 순간부터 바다를 좋아하게 됐다. 물놀이를 좋아하는 것이 아닌 그냥 바라보는 걸 좋아한다. 낭만은 아니다 지평선이 어쩌고저쩌고 그런 게 아니다. 이유 없이 좋다. 바라보면 아무 생각 없어지고 정신이 맑아진다. 그리곤 허무해진다. 내가 고작 이걸 보려고 여기까지 왔나. 그러다가도 어느새 생각난다. 그런 존재다 내게 바다는.
거리는 나에게 많은 영감을 준다. 나는 스튜디오 작업보다는 야외 작업이 좋다. 조명보다는 햇빛을 선호하고. 그렇다고 해서 실내에서 작업을 안 하는 것은 아니다. 다만 야외에서 촬영하는 것이 더 좋다는 것뿐이다. 이날은 내가 카메라를 들고 피사체가 되어주신 할아버지 옆에 서있던 게 생각난다. 분명 나랑 눈이 다섯 번 이상 마주쳤다. 하지만 당황하지 않고 사진을 찍었고 생각보다 마음에 드는 결과물이 나왔다. 감사합니다.
난 스무살때부터 줄곧 패션 사진만 찍었다. 학교에서 사진을 배우거나 학원을 다니지도 않았다. 당시 가로수길과 압구정을 돌아다니며 지나가는 사람들에게 말을 걸어 사진을 찍기 시작한게 내 첫 발걸음이다. 이제 곧 스물일곱이니 칠 년째다. 요즘엔 패션도 패션이지만 다큐 사진도 찍고 있다. 화려하게 꾸며진 피사체가 질린다. 일상에서 최대한 많은 것을 느끼려 노력하는 중이다.
인스타그램에는 글을 못쓰겠다. 그냥 쓰기가 싫다. 네이버는 귀찮다. 그냥 내가 열심히 하던 텀블러에 글을 쓰기로 했다. 물론이게 얼마나 오래갈지 모르지만. 이제부터 내가 순간 느낀 감정과 시선을 담은 사진에 대한 얘기를 적어볼까 한다. 영상과 비슷하게 사진에도 감정과 스토리가 있다. 잠이 안와 오늘부터 포스팅 시작이다.
정말 오랜만에 포스팅이다. 난 가끔 화이트칼라에 멋을 느끼곤 한다. 매일 같은 하루에 반복이지만 그들은 항상 가족과 삶을 위해 어쩔 수 없이 갇힌 틀 안에서 고군분투한다. 쉽지 않은 선택이라는 것을 알기에 그들은 항상 멋있다. 어쩌면 가장 위대한 예술가 일지도.

-I met this woman standing outside of the ICP, waiting for something or someone I assume. I asked her if I could take a photo of her, she smiled, took a long puff of her cigarette and said, “No”. Not in any mean way of sorts. So I said, “how about just your bags and your cigarette hand and your legs?” She asked me “is this for personal work or professional work?” I said” it’s for personal work ma’am, and you look so mysterious, so much larger than life. She looked so very beautiful standing on those steps, back to the wall and the bags by her legs, smoking away, not a care in the world, totally badass she was! For days weeks I couldn’t think of a quote that would do her picture justice. Aside from the words we exhaled here, this very beautiful woman is an enigma to me. I don’t remember what she looked like. And I’m the type of photographer who remembers everything about everything! But I think it’s for the best that I can’t remember this beautiful, larger than life, absolutely stunning, and careless woman who’s been on my mind for a long time! So, ma’am if you see this, and this is you, please, get in touch I would love to meet you again!
