Lipstick… we all probably have a love/hate relationship with it. You put it on, it looks gorgeous. Then you go out and first thing you know, it smudged on your sleeve or half of it stuck to your coffee cup.
In the line of my personal favorites, Maybelline’s matte lip ink is DA BEST! Once it dried, it stays. Just apply wait a few minutes, kiss a tissue to remove the excess and you will have flawless lips for the whole day! They have a nice collection of colors and it is available in every drugstore for about 10-12$ CAD and is often on sale for about 10$.
Smudge proof, transfer proof… you can have your coffee or kiss your lover all day: it’s not going anywhere!

Ahh Hard Candy. You never seem to disappoint me when it comes to the abundance of glitter in your products. Whenever I need a glitter fix, I know I can turn to your makeup. And your newest launch was full of glitter for sure. These are the Glitteratzi Press + Play Glitter Transforming Lip Color and when a product has the word glitter TWICE in the name, you know it’s going to be all about glitter.
Let’s first talk about the packaging of these lippies. They are encased in a clear plastic tube with the cutest spiked metallic purple and blue lid. They’re so fun! They have a spongy doe-foot applicator and they have zero scent. But, packaging aside, I have to admit I’m a little disappointed by these lip colors. They are a clear dupe for the Ciaté Glitter Flips that launched last year. Now, for those of you who don’t know, the Glitter Flips feature this really cool technology where the metallic matte liquid lipsticks transform into a glitter lip just by pressing your lips together! Magic right?! Totally. No other explanation for it.
So, I’m not at all mad that Hard Candy “copied” the Ciaté Glitter Flips. Even though Ciaté was the first company to make them, I just view it as them starting a trend. Good on them. I personally think it’s great that Hard Candy developed these at a way lower price point ($8CAD/$6USD) because let’s face it, these aren’t everyday lip colors that are necessarily worth spending upwards of $20 on. Just sayin’.
But before we get into if I actually like these Glitter Transforming Lip Colors (building suspense, y’know?), let’s talk about the shades first. Usually if I like the shades, I will usually be a fan of the lipstick regardless of the formulation. But these shades are BOLD. And I’m not a bold lip kind of gal. But I guess if you’re doing a full-on glitter lip, you’re going to be pretty bold anyways. From left to right on the swatches, there is Glitz (a dark magenta), Glamour (deep purple), Allure (turquoise), Dazzle (true nude), Charm (bright poppy red), Slay (navy), and Splendor (a light lilac mauve). So out of all seven shades that Hard Candy released, two of them are blue. I might be a grandma in my old age and not a fan of blue lipstick but doesn’t it seem impractical to have two blue lipsticks when you only released seven shades?! I just wish there could have been some more nudes and light pnks thrown in. I know, I know. I’m lame.
But now the time has come. Let’s talk about the formula and if I actually like these Press + Play Lip Colors. The short answer is.. no. No, I do not like these. I think the idea is super clever and at the price point, they’re still a fun product to give a try and wear for a night out or on Halloween. But I won’t be reaching for them everyday. They go on the lips with a metallic sheen but when you press your lips together, instead of seeing a gorgeous glitter appear, it’s quite a bit more lackluster. You just get a few extra flecks of glitter. If you look at the swatches above, it’s almost impossible to tell a difference between the “before and after”. Plus, I found that when I rubbed my lips together, instead of revealing glitter, I just tugged off big patches of the liquid lipstick instead. And it definitely didn’t help that these were super drying on the lips as well. So the idea gets an A+ but it might just be the execution that gets a failing grade. Sorry, Hard Candy. I still love ya.

New Etude House Colorful Vivid Tint Lip Swatches and Review
#Kbeauty brand #EtudeHouse has just launched their new highly-pigmented, skin-friendly #ColorfulVividTints, and these vibrant liquid-gel stains are formulated to be smoothing and #plumping, instead of just being superficially glossy-looking like generic gel stains.
The 10 fun fruit-themed colors are intensely vibrant and can all be worn translucent as a K-style gradient stain or full-on for a more dramatic lacquered look. While they aren’t meant to be “long wear” products, the staining effect does mean that your lip look will stick around through some eating and drinking.
This week Melt Cosmetics released their Better Than Roses collection and I received their limited edition Valentines Day packaging which is insanely pretty! Pink and White, an uplifting change from the dark and alternative style Melt as known for.
Pictured above are two Digital Dust Highlighters from the collection. This is are extremely pigmented and glide on intensely with one swipe. These are just as alluring on the skin as they are in the pressed form, with that exquisite script imprint.
Phoenixis a gorgeous rosy copper shade! It would work brilliantly as a highlighter on medium to deep skin tones but this doubles as a blush and therefore suitable for all skin tones. Anyone with a smooth skin texture will adore this shade across the cheeks as it adds both colour and lustre! *Not Vegan*
Pink Moon is a Rosé Pink that adds a bubbly glow to the cheeks! Again, suitable for everyone and is a nice contrast to Phoenix. This is probably my favourite of the two as it’s more universal and can be worn alone without contour for that Glass-like skin! *Not Vegan*
There are 3 NEW Liquid Set Lipsticks in this collection and in very contrasting shades. The formula is a comfortable matte finish that doesn’t crack and lasts ALL day! They have a distinctive scent, as with all of Melts liquid lipsticks, I believe it may be Vanilla but it does remind me of playdough.
TIP - I’ve found the easiest and most efficient way to remove these long-lasting lipsticks is run soap (handsoap works best but don’t get it in your mouth, trust me, it doesn’t taste as good as it smells!) onto the lipstick and gently work it in circle motions until it starts to break-up. It may appear as though it’s not going anywhere but wipe over it with a tissue and almost all of it will go in one swipe!
Gwendolyn is a burn Coral shade, sitting within the nude spectrum it’s one for those of you that like to wear colour but nothing too bright! It’s still punchy and super pigmented but on the nude side - my favourite. *Vegan*
B Movie is a shocking Pink! You can’t not be noticed when wearing this on your lips, it draws your eyes straight to the lips. This would look fab with Black-winged liner and some fluffy cluster lashes! *Vegan*
Sequelis a deep Plum shade! Wear this with colour with confidence as it’s a statement lip that is dark & mysterious. It would be amazing for a night out paired with lashings of mascara!
Better Than Roses can be purchased as a collection but Melt also sell the products individually, so if a particular item takes your fancy you can save your pennies rather than splurging on the entire lot. If you’re looking for a bold, bright colored mascara shade then this will not disappoint. The color looks as opaque and pigmented on swatches as they do on your lashes. I got a compliment from our local coffee barista after road-testing Totally Teal for the day. Using colored mascaras are a fun way to liven up your look without doing anything drastic and they flatter dark colored eyes really well.
Take a page from beauty school with these fanciful books. Each palette contains 4 complementary shades to mix and match for a seamless burst of colour. Silky-smooth, mineral formula.Paraben free. Not tested on animals.

The fun and colorful packaging belies how seriously pigmented and blendable these powders are! Just a few swipes are all you need for face color that would last you the whole day. The Glamourbox team have their own faves from the 3 variants but we all agree that these palettes are a must-have!

Our thoughts
This lippie has a very unique texture, it reminds you of a tint but dries down to a matte pigment on the lips. Some shades require more coats than the others but always make sure not to put it on to thick and gradually build up to the opacity that you want to avoid flaking on the lips. Once it sets, it won’t budge!
