Despite all the post finale Succession speculation I have yet to see anyone theorize that Kerry is acting on her own re the maca root smoothies. Logan will die sooner rather than later and Baby Roy would inherit a lot.

maybe i’m just really fucking slow on the uptake but am i reading into this scene right?? once tom offers himself as the beating post to logan, after having discussed it with shiv the night before, he makes the now (in)famous call to the mysterious rex hendon for legal advice.
he’d claimed to shiv (and greg) the day before that he’d be meeting a lawyer and even reports later to shiv how he was told that jail time was inevitable for someone in his position.
BUT!! this doesn’t check out? if tom only made the call to hendon AFTER getting confirmation that his girlboss wife and her dad were willing to sell him out so easily…then was he just bluffing about the previous legal advice???

While the reddit bros who are obsessed with logan and think hes a genius and is justified being awful to his kids bc they suck are.. deeply misunderstanding everything thats going on… acting like logan is entirely heartless and a one-note cartoon villain is equally doing a disservice to the show.
i hate him as much as the next guy but logan is a much more interesting and well-written character if you acknowledge that, just like the kids, a lot of his cruelty comes from horrible lessons taught by his childhood trauma. just as with them, it doesnt excuse his actions and plenty of people have trauma without becoming abusers themselves, but it’s still an important part of the picture. we don’t get a lot of information, but this show is built around the cycles of abuse and people passing around hurt and we miss a huge piece of that if we act like logan is evil just because.
We learned in 1x02 that ewan and logan grew up in poverty and lost their father and mother relatively young and were moved from scotland to canada to live with their uncle. then, in 1x07 we learned that logan’s uncle noah brutally beat him to the point where he has a number of huge scars well into his 80s. and in 2x08 we learn that logan had a sister who died when they were younger, whose circumstances we dont know but we do know logan blamed himself for her death.
a childhood defined by loss and cruelty suggests a lot of what we’ve seen about logan’s behavior. a form of this is the resentment he has for the privilege his children lived in; i believe kendall was correct when he said that logan is so jealous he can’t stand it. it also explains the derision for the perceived weaknesses in his children. logan grew up in pain and believes it’s that pain that made him strong, so when he sees his children being “weak” he thinks theyve had it too easy - theyve been “spoiled.”
that loss is also why he needs his children by his side so badly. even when kendall betrays him logan only destroys him to the point where kendall comes back, when kendall wants out logan wont let him. when shiv has an outside career logan threatens her and gives her false promises until she comes back. even roman was planning to leave in the pilot until logan lured him back w coo. despite whatever betrayals he needs his children by his side obeying him. it’s about controlling them yes, but that need for control and to be certain they are there and love him wholly and entirely comes from logans own traumas.
marcia hit the nail on the head with “he made you a playground and you think it’s the whole world” but not about shiv, about logan. he wants them out and about but only to a point. in the end they need to be close enough for him to watch over.
so logan has several conflicting desires - for his kids to be strong, for his kids to be better off than he was, and for his kids to be close, and those desires are part of what drives his abuses of them in the show
