Mercedes-Benz Vision AVTR, 2020. Presented at the CES, a concept inspired  by the movie Avatar. Instead of a conventional steering wheel, the multifunctional control element in the centre console allows human and machine to “merge”. By placing the hand on the control unit, the vehicle recognises the driver by his or her heartbeat and breathing. The electric car uses a new battery technology based on graphene-based organic cell chemistry that is completely free of rare earths and metals.

World’s Fair Necklace!

The World’s Fair Necklace pays homage to the Tiffany necklace that was made for the World’s Fair in 1939.

The reimagined piece which was two years in the making, features a total of 578 diamonds, including 353 round brilliant stones and 224 custom-cut baguettes.

The pièce de résistance is the “Empire Diamond” named after a fellow New York City icon, the Empire State Building. This 80-carat D color flawless diamond takes the place of the original’s aquamarine stone at the center of the necklace.

The oval-shaped rarity is the largest and most expensive diamond ever offered for sale by Tiffany.

“Astaneh-ye-ferdaws” (Gate of Paradise) &  “Halo of Light” spectacles,

Late 19th century,

“Gate of Paradise,” are believed to have been cut from a Colombian emerald weighing over 300 carats.

“Halo of Light” spectacles, are believed to have been cleaved from a single 200-carat diamond found in Golconda, a region in the present-day Indian states of Andhra Pradesh and Telangana.

The gemstones were highly prized in Islamic and Indic traditions, where they had strong associations with spirituality. Diamonds were associated with “celestial light” and “enlightenment” in Indic societies, as the bright stones were believed to be “vehicles for astral forces” that could channel the auspicious intentions of the universe.

Green is also a color closely linked to paradise, salvation and eternal life in Islam, the religion practiced by the Mughal rulers. Viewing the world through these emerald-tinted glasses would, therefore, have had special significance

Leggenda eClassic simulator!

This particular simulator is the first of nine that were handmade at Pininfarina’s factory in Cambiano, Italy. It aims to replicate the thrill of driving a rarified supercar on the most iconic tracks the world has to offer.

The simulator’s design was inspired by by the famous Cisitalia 202. This two-seat grand tourer from the 1940s was so influential in postwar automobile design that it was showcased in the Museum of Modern Art’s landmark “Eight Automobiles” exhibition in 1951.

In 1972, MoMA made it the first car ever to join an art museum’s permanent collection because of its statement-making bodywork. The Leggenda sports the same elegant lines and a timeless Argento Vivo (quick silver) paint.

It’s finished to Pininfarina’s meticulous standards, too. The lavish cabin is finished in rich tobacco-colored leather and is fitted with a comfy bucket seat that can support hours of driving. Like an actual car, the simulator is equipped with a wooden steering wheel, manual gear shifter and three pedals. It even has a vintage Hanhart chronometer mounted to the dash.

Arguably its most important feature is the hi-res Dell monitor, which curves to give the driver a more immersive experience. Through it, you can explore world-famous racetracks, such as Spa, Brands Hatch and Monza, along with serpentine alpine roads that emulate hill climbs.

Created by Pinifarina in collaboration with The Classic Car Trust (TCCT)

The Tiffany Diamond:

The Tiffany Diamond is one of the world’s largest and finest yellow diamonds. Discovered in the Kimberley diamond mines in South Africa in 1877, the 287.42-carat rough stone was acquired the following year by founder Charles Lewis Tiffany for $18,000 and solidified Mr. Tiffany’s reputation as the “King of Diamonds.”

The rough stone was brought to Paris, where Tiffany’s chief gemmologist, Dr. George Frederick Kunz, supervised the cutting of the diamond into a cushion-shape brilliant weighing 128.54 carats with an unprecedented 82 facets—24 more facets than the traditional 58-facet brilliant cut. The stone is just over an inch wide and seven-eighths of an inch from top to bottom. Cut to enhance its radiant colour rather than size, the diamond sparkles as if lit by an inner flame.

In 1957, socialite Mrs. E. Sheldon Whitehouse became the first woman to wear the Tiffany Diamond. In 1961, it was reset in Jean Schlumberger’s Ribbon Rosette necklace, worn by Audrey Hepburn in publicity photos for the film Breakfast at Tiffany’s. The stone was reset for our 175th anniversary and later worn by Lady Gaga to the 91st annual Academy Awards.

Today, Beyoncé Knowles-Carter becomes the fourth woman in over a century to wear the Tiffany Diamond.
