Mark: … and it was so hard, a lot of the times. There’s a true story: Harrison Ford, who plays the space pirate in the film, at one point threatened to tie George up and, and uh make him say his own lines at gunpoint. (Audience and host laugh.) I mean, the dialogue was a little bit difficult. I remember, there was one line I just begged him to take out of the screenplay, and he finally did. And it’s when-

Host: Do you remember the line?

Mark: Yes. Boy, I’ll never forget it in my life as long as I live, I sometimes dream about this line. Uh. It was just coming upon the exploded planet of the princess-

Host: (crosstalk) Right. Alderaan

Mark: - Alderaan, had been totally blown away, and Harrison says, [drops to a low rumble to imitate Harrison Ford’s voice] ‘Look kid, I’ve uh done my part of the bargain. When I get to an asteroid, you, the old man, and the droids get dropped off.’”

[Points to himself, volume raising] “And my line was: [Voice raises to Luke’s pitch] ‘But we can’t turn back! Fear is their greatest defense, I doubt if the actual security there’s any greater than it was on Aquilae or Sullust, and what there is is most likely directed towards large-scale assault.”

[He sits primly with his hands on his knees. The audience laughs. Mark’s expression is incredulous] “And I thought, ‘Who talks like this, George?’” [The host and audience laugh.] End VD]
