Giuliano: I can’t believe Simonetta blocked me on Instagram.

Sandro: *takes out phone* wait you can do that?

Giuliano: Sandro… what are you doing?

Sandro: Blocking your ass on Instagram.

Sandro and Giuliano but make it ✨Gen Z✨ pretty sure Giuliano would either shit post or have f-boy selfies, there is no in between

Simonetta: Messer Medici you will put the poets out of business!

Lorenzo: *recites his cucumber masterpiece loud enough for all of Florence to hear*

Simonetta: Oh…surely you knew that I meant Giuliano…he never mentioned your…talents

Sandro appreciation post because yes I love the brothers (uh well mostly the poor baby who was stabbed to death) and the powerful women (so badass and inspirational especially Mama Lucrezia), Sandro represents the essence of the time period for me. After his best friend Giuliano died, he personally experienced a renaissance of his own art “because after death comes life” as he put it. This personal journey of his highlights how even in a period of political instability, art and beauty is what keeps society going. It is what kept him going.

As an artist myself, his journey really spoke to me…especially when he lost his muse. It’s really inspiring that even though his greatest inspirations died, he was able to keep going and produce some of his best works. He didn’t forget about his inspiration, Simonetta because he never stops painting Venus. What really moved me is that he didn’t forget Giuliano. In season 3 when he shows his sketch of a Greek god to little Giulio and calls it a “likeness of your father” that was one of the sweetest moments of the show. What Sandro does truly honours Giuliano’s memory unlike Lorenzo’s obsessive and dark path of revenge.

Sandro as a character is so strong because he is as driven and ambitious as Lorenzo but unlike Lorenzo, he sticks to his morals and principles. Can I just say he does this in the most iconic way by throwing shade at the Pope?? “It is for his glory, not ours”

Lastly, yes, he is super stubborn but he always comes around when it matters. He reconciled with his best friend as he died even though their fight was HUGE because it was about his art and his connection to his muse which was his ENTIRE life. He also stood by Lorenzo as he died (who lets face it was not deserving of all the sympathy when he died because he sold his freaking daughter and tried to use Sandro and his art as a political tool and replaced him with Leonardo). He is such a beautifully written and portrayed character and he is super underrated and deserves better. Let’s not forget both part 1 and part 2 end with his art because that’s what this show is about “the beauty and the pain”

Lucrezia: Clarice, our coffers are empty and we’ve been stealing from the city!

Clarice: Why tf??

Lucrezia: because Lorenzo is bad with money..

Clarice: correct me if I’m wrong but isn’t he a bAnKeR??

Lucrezia: shhh he doesn’t know what he is

medici-de-medici:

Season 2:

Giuliano: our enemies encircle us, open your eyes bro—

Lorenzo: words have power blah blah blah…I DO THIS FOR FLORENCE!

Giuliano: okay bro, expect an “I told you so” when I die ;)

Lorenzo: when you WHAT

Season 3:

Lorenzo: *does some very morally questionable activities*

Everyone: wtf man

Lorenzo: I DO THIS FOR GIULIANO!

Giuliano: *face palms in heaven* wtf bro

tbt my first post haha

Lorenzo: Omg why is everyone like so obsessed with me??

Also Lorenzo: *obsesses over Giuliano’s death and legit starts a war because he’s obsessed with avenging him*

Giuliano: umm yeah..some people just can’t take a hint

Lorenzo: I love Maddalena

Also Lorenzo: *sells Maddalena* but I love power and influence more oops

Lorenzo: I’m dying I better spend more time with my family.

Also Lorenzo: *spends all his time with Bruno and exclusively holds his hand instead of his wife’s or sister’s and slaps his son and sells his daughter too*

Giuliano in therapy (again)

Therapist: Why have you not been speaking to Sandro?

Giuliano: He’s obsessed with Simonetta because he loves to paint her!

Therapist: Doesn’t he love to paint you too?

Giuliano:Ohh

Okay but we need to talk about how shit a brother Lorenzo was. Giuliano often downplays how shittily he was treated cause well he’s Giuliano so (feel free to add on because I only put what stood out most to me:)

1. Legit made him attack Volterra and to quote Giuliano, it was a “massacre”. I mean look how broken Giuliano was by that experience.

2. Giuliano having way more humility and realising that Volterra was a bloody mistake (literally) refused to bask in the glory after his victory in Volterra but Lorenzo acted like the victory was his and his alone. He continued to march acting like Volterra was worth it and he was some hero.

3. Despite all of Giuliano’s sacrifices for Lorenzo, Lorenzo replaced him with Francesco Pazzi. Yes, the same Francesco Pazzi who paid goons to hit Giuliano while he watched. The same Francesco Pazzi who publicly humiliated Giuliano. I mean how could Lorenzo not be aware of the feud that resulted in his brother’s imprisonment??

4. Lorenzo expressed his strong distaste towards Giuliano and Simonetta’s relationship. Which is ironic because he himself was seeing Lucrezia Donati while he was married and after he “promised” his heart to Clarice. Giuliano addresses this one quite hilariously minutes before he dies. Ugh his character was golden.

5. Okay now coming to how Lorenzo is a shit brother to Bianca. He completely strong arms her and forces her to marry Bastiano Soderini. I mean it’s great that he realised his mistake but he wouldn’t have cared if Bianca hadn’t reacted so fiercely (if you are picturing her slapping his face, you’re not the only one). Meanwhile, Giuliano purposefully loses the joust despite being fully capable of winning it because he doesn’t want to hurt Guglielmo. I mean his EQ is so much higher than Lorenzo’s because he knows how Bianca feels about Guglielmo. He doesn’t give a shit that Guglielmo is a Pazzi or the brother of his arch nemesis. He only cares about Bianca. When Lorenzo banishes Bianca and Guglielmo he does it for selfish reasons because Giuliano would not have wanted that.

6. Lorenzo only considered giving Imola to Giuliano when his mother forced his hand. He did not trust in Giuliano’s abilities. Somehow, surly Francesco has more charisma than Giuliano sheesh.

7. Lorenzo was not too keen when Giuliano went to deal with the Duke of Milan because he thought that only he could get the job done again sheesh but of course Giuliano proved him wrong.

8. In part 2, he doesn’t believe that Giulio is Giuliano’s son and claims that Giuliano had been with half the women in Florence. He said this despite seeing his brother get dumped by Fioretta and seeing her keep his ring. So, he knew that Giuliano was serious about Giulio’s mother yet he still chose to make such remarks and he degraded Giulio as a bastard which also taught Piero to be really bitchy towards his cousin. Again, Lorenzo has double standards because clearly he has had his fair share of dalliances who knows how many Ippolitas are in his past and well he emotionally cheats on Clarice even after he stops meeting Lucrezia so.

In conclusion, Lorenzo is not only a shitty brother but an all round shitty person and most of us still like him :)

Therapist: What do you want from life, Giuliano?

Giuliano: idrk but it would be nice to be valued by my family.

Therapist: And what is stopping you?

Giuliano: Oh well, idk just off the top of my head MY IDIOT BROTHER WHO THINKS HE’S SOOOOO SMART TRUSTING A PAZZI AND MAKING HIM HIS CHILD’S GODFATHER AND ACTING LIKE I AM THE DISTANT ONE IN THE RELATIONSHIP AND HE ONLY ASKS FOR ME WHEN MY MOM PUSHES HIM TO—

Therapist: It’s Simonetta isn’t it?

Giuliano: OMG Simonetta is that you??

My Ghirlandaio’s GirlsDomenico Ghirlandaio is one of my favorite artists ever! And the Capella

My Ghirlandaio’s Girls

Domenico Ghirlandaio is one of my favorite artists ever! And the Capella Tornabuoni’s frescoes can be considered as his masterpiece!

So I made 3 of my favorite Ghirlandaio’s Girls. The first one is his muse Giovanna (degli Albizzi) Tornabuoni, from “The Nativity”.

Giovanna is the gorgeous young wife of Lorenzo Tornabuoni, son of Giovanni Tornabuoni the head of the family.

Ghirlandaio immortalized her also in the painting “Portrait of Giovanna Tornabuoni”, one of his most famous artworks.

The second is, possibly, a Medici lady, maybe Lorenzo’s older daughter, Lucrezia. Since the Tornabuonis and the Medicis had a lot of marriages between the families, and a lot of Medici members are in the frescoes, is very presumptive the girl close to Clarice Orsini (Lorenzo’s wife) and Lucrrezia Tornabuoni (Lorenzo’s mother) is a Medici girl. But I can’t be sure of that, I’m still researching about it.

The fresco is “Birth of the Baptist”

The last one is the young Ludovica Tornabuoni, a 13 years old daughter of Messer Giovanni Tornabuoni, from “The Birth of Mary”.

Did you like my Ghirlandaio’s girls? I love this artist so much, so it’s very possible that I’ll make a lot of more of his ladies ;)
