Julian Lennon, Stick Around(1986)
Hey so walk with me here because I’m losing my mind a little. During the scene at the festival in part 3 where Buford aimed the gun at Doc’s back and then y’know, forcibly danced with Clara. Doc was yelling. Doc yelled, the lackeys yelled and cackled, Buford was taunting. But it wasn’t until Buford yelled and Clara was pushed to the ground that Marty actually noticed anything. You can tell because his head goes up a little, y'know, like how you do when you’ve Just noticed something. And also because this is Marty we’re talking about- there’s no way in hell he would just stand there and watch all relaxed eating pie if his best friend and best friend’s crush were being messed with, especially by a Tannen of all people. Doc was literally being held back, Marty would have been in that scene in SECONDS if he’d seen it happening. And if not been there, he’d at least have said something.
But he. But he didn’t. Marty was distracted. Marty was distracted by pie.
There’s not a lot of thought here, I just was rewatching this scene and it suddenly occurred to me that like. Marty HAD been watching the dance. He grabbed a slice of pie then turned to watch everybody jam!
But our little buddy must’ve gotten real sucked into this entire table of pie because it’s under a minute from when he turned that Buford showed up, and THEN he’s taunting Doc and Clara for a solid two minutes. Again there’s. Absolutely nothing saying here except Marty’s sweet tooth that made me giggle.
