A fellow follower sent me this article and I’m so appalled that I’m basically speechless. I’ve been trying to get my thoughts and words together for weeks on this but it’s still that much of a mind fu€£!

“Hey there, here is an article that I stumbled across, I was so upset by it that I wrote an email to the author. The Professor who wrote it is speaking about the #Kardashians and their ethical and moral shortfalls by peddling black influences and culture, but what really got me was the way she spoke about their #mixedrace children as a ‘horror’ and therefore inciting that they are a problem for simply existing.

This professor has also published books which they are profiting from despite trashing #mixedracepeople.

They are trying to be a crusader of Black People but have completely trashed mixed race people (a lot of whom are mixed-black).

She’s an academic seemingly high up in her field and is profiting off this stuff. We need to put the word out that she is harmful to mixed people!

Full article here:

https://www.publicbooks.org/the-kardashians-multiracial-white-supremacy/

I also posted a link to the full article in my story. Thoughts? ❔❕

#throw post from @art_teacher_life: “I just wanted to let you know that I have been learning a lot about some of the issues I’ve been experiencing my whole life as #beingbiracial. I am originally from a small town in where there were no other #biracialfamilies. I struggled a lot with identity as I was not #White enough and not Asian enough. When I began travelling was the only time I felt like myself. Because everywhere I went people said I belonged to them and I fit in every where I went. I now understand that I have been experiencing Racial Imposter Syndrome. I think many #biracialpeople feel the same.

What is #RacialimposterSyndrome?
I am a #biracial child, born in Australia. My mother is #French and my father is #Chinese #Malayian. Like many #biracialchildren I was a minority, the smallest minority. The only other children I knew until I was 13 who were also biracial were my siblings, and when I did finally meet another biracial, we clung together because we were the only two in a school of 1000 kids. There was a small group of #Asian kids at my school and every now and then we would hang out with them, but were never ‘Asian’ enough. The 'white’ kids at our school bullied me with racist slurs I didnt understand and forced me to hate looking 'ethnic.’

Racial Imposter Syndrome is a condition when biracial people feel as though they do not belong to their parents or grandparents race due to being #mixedrace. Biracial individuals, including myself, often experience severe #mentalhealth issues due to a lack of belonging and isolation. As our minority is becoming the fastest growing minority this is an issue that needs to be addressed. #Biracialpeople are a #POC minority who deserve to belong.”

#repost • @cjoybellc: “Omg. My mother just sent me this photograph.

This was in the 90s on my 16th birthday.

Sweet 16th!

Looking at this, I feel a host of emotions. Not to be petty, but, I have been on a journey of saving myself lately, and, this is definitely a piece of the puzzle that right now fits perfectly. So, allow me my space for a minute.

I just cannot believe I was bullied so much by classmates. And at each of the schools I went to. While I was looking like this at 16, I clearly remember my bullies looking like anthropod larvae at 16. How did they get away with making me cry myself to sleep at night? It clearly does not make sense!‍♀️‍♀️

If I could go back and save this girl, I would tell her to not let ANYONE make her cry; that they would NEVER become worth a single tear. Ever. They’d always be stuck in their same bodies, minds, and never become any better. And they’d fade away as she was just beginning to shine!

This is something I’ve spoken to @mixdgrlprblems about: about how people have a general perception of racism being an inherently white people’s flaw. But that’s only because they are speaking from a perspective of living in Western lands. From the perspective of living in Asia as someone who really doesn’t look Asian, the tables really do turn. Asians are easily incredibly nasty and racist and feel no remourse or responsibility to fix their ways (because the world gives Asia a free pass since racism is just supposed to be a Western responsibility).

While I can clearly see that the unfair treatment was more a result of envy than anything else; I still do think that "they” felt more “at home” being beasts to me because they assigned “humanity” to those who looked just like them.

With all that been said, bullying really does happen to the best of us. If you are bullied right now, and about to give up on yourself, if they spread rumours about you in an attempt to destroy your life… please take the words above, which I would have spoken to my younger self, and speak them to yourself right now. And one day in the future, you’ll see what I mean! "

love this slide by @courtneyahndesign on being white presenting/white passing, whatever term you use

love this slide by @courtneyahndesign on being white presenting/white passing, whatever term you use. what are your thoughts?

“let’s talk about the term ✨#whitepassing✨
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
If you’ve been following me for a while you’ve probably heard me use this term in reference to myself quite often! White passing is used to describe when you are perceived incorrectly as white (usually due to your appearance). For me, it’s because I’m #mixed & quite #lightskinned as a result! But there’s a few things to note here on being white passing:
1) it’s not always permanent & depends largely on the environment - I certainly was not white passing when I grew up in an all white small town but I definitely was when I moved into a bigger, more diverse city around other POC.
2) Much of what people consider the “mannerism” side of white passing is simply just white supremacy & #racialprejudice, like “You sound so white though!” or “You don’t dress like an Asian person!” so I typically focus just on appearance alone.
3) #Beingwhitepassing does not exempt you from the effects of systemic racism although it may affect how & when you experience them. But the reason why so many people use this term (including myself!) is because it’s a crucial part in understanding the spectrum of #racism. When #POC are perceived as white they are granted privileges over non white passing POC that white folks frequently experience - less harassment & overt racism, easier access to white-dominated spaces, you name it. That’s why it’s incredibly important to note in more nuanced conversations on race & is often included along with the idea of colorism, or how dark skinned POC face more severe racism than light skinned POC.

But let me tell you when it’s not helpful to bring up…
1) As a white person pointing it out to a POC (this isn’t your place y’all!)
2) To make the point that someone isn’t ____ (Black, Asian, etc) enough because of the way they look!
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
As always, this is not meant to be a comprehensive guide but a starting point for learning & further research on the topic”

donnisbutterfly:

i’ve made quite a few posts on #blackfishing and there’s always those handful of people who don’t think it’s a big deal or say i should mind my business when it comes to how people dress, etc. i wish it wasn’t a big deal, i wish i could ignore it but a lot of these people make it pretty hard. blackfishing has repercussions that most don’t even realize are harmful. this comment is one of them. have you ever felt that you had to overcompensate? have you ever felt that you couldn’t wear a hairstyle or clothing because you were afraid of what people would say?

#mixedpeople, especially #mixedwomen, are forced to water ourselves down in so many ways. we can’t be ourselves, our authentic selves, talk about it or even celebrate it.

we’re accused of blackfishing AND starting the “trend”. @nicoleocran said it best in a article about blackfishing and #mixedfishing in @metro.co.uk: “Blackfishing in particular fuels the stereotype that mixed people are actively trying to deceive people. It perpetuates the “pick me” stereotype – when it is white people who are afforded the opportunity to take on and off this cosplay as they so choose. This is the mixed person’s reality. We just want the opportunity to discuss the fluidity of identity without being mocked, ridiculed or excluded, but music videos like #JesyNelson’s or celebrities making billions of dollars in the beauty industry like #KylieJenner, make it easy entertainment fodder.”

What are your thoughts on this? And please please please be kind to each other in the comments!

“#JeanetteNkwate is head of content at @allthingshairuk.

With a #Filipino mother and a #Cameroonian father, she says people don’t expect #mixedracepeople to look like she does.

‘Being #mixedrace but not light-skinned, I’ve received interesting reactions from people of all backgrounds. Albeit a sweeping statement, but with white and #Asian people, I typically get shock because I don’t fit into what they deem to be mixed-race. While #Black people are often hyper-curious to figure out my heritage and quite frequently are inadvertently a little prejudiced with their statements – normally it’s something about my eyes.’

Jeanette’s dad had a really bad accident when he was younger, so his family sent him to London for treatment. Her mother was a nurse in the hospital where he was recovering.

She knows that her particular ‘mix’ is considered unusual, as many people still assume that being mixed-race always means that you are part white.

‘I know that I don’t fit into what people generally think of as mixed-race because I don’t have a light skin-tone.’

‘It annoys me that in questionnaires, #beingmixed race is only presented as white and otherness. I always opt for “#mixedother”, “other” or “#mixed”.

‘I also don’t see being mixed-race and being black as mutually exclusive things. I know that people like to classify others, but I identify myself as both: I’m a Black woman but I’m also a mixed-race woman.’

Jeanette says that #beingmixedrace gives her a unique experience of life. She says she loves being able to dip into and celebrate different cultures; ‘and that’s something that I feel more comfortable doing and vocalising now, as I’m older.’

‘I love and identify with both sides. I would say I possibly lean slightly towards my Dad’s heritage, but only because I know that when people see my skin tone they see me as “just black”.

‘I would say that both communities are inclusive, but the black community is more immediately inclusive because they can easily identify me as one of their own.’”

privilege doesn’t cancel out the racism but some of us have privilege nonetheless. however never blame the victim and you don’t blame the ones who have no control over their privilege, what we do have control of is how we can uplift. the only one to blame is white supremacy. also stop assuming EVERY mixed person is mixed with white and benefits from that. there are dark skinned people who are mixed race who feel even more ostracized. there are a lot of us who don’t have a white parent. two things are true at the same time.

The fact that the Crown Act even needs to exist is beyond me. The fact that only 14 out of 50 states have passed the Crown Act is not mathing for me. #TheCrownAct promises to abolish #hairdiscrimination, which means you can’t deem someone unprofessional until they cut off their locks so they can be hired, athletes can compete with beads in their hair or they’ll be disqualified, send someone home to change their hairstyle or pull someone aside and say “maybe straighten your hair next time.” its giving slavery, which is how hair discrimination started.

have you experienced hair discrimination? in corporate or on the court? where? let’s name names. comment below
