The Road Ahead (old Route 66, looking east at Chambless, California). Unfortunately, due to roadwork, the road’s actually closed at the bottom of the hill here (where Cadiz Road goes off to the right), so you can’t (legally) follow old Route 66 further east this way, at least for the foreseeable future.

Newberry Springs’s Bagdad Cafe on old Route 66 in the Mojave Desert, one of the stars of the film of the same name (I’ve seen the film and visited the cafe, and remember the place from back when it was the Sidewinder Cafe…). I hadn’t been there for a few years, but it seemed to be closed when I tried again a week or two ago (March 2022), which is a worry. And yes, Bagdad Cafe isn’t actually in Bagdad, which is a bunch of miles east of here (and nowadays not even a ghost town, just a name on a map)…

The March of Progress (Dunn Road, San Bernadino County, near Afton Canyon).
