Many people have that dream of love at first sight; Nicola Yoon creates an entire book out of that dream. The Sun Is Also A Star is filled with typical teenage romance while still dealing with modern day obstacles. It tells a story that could actually happen, that might even be happening right now.
Natasha is a young woman with a very fact-oriented mind, believing in only what’s in front and can actually be seen, not that annoying stuff about impossible dreams or emotions. Natasha doesn’t have time for impossible dreams, not when she’s about to be deported back to her homeland in Jamaica.
Daniel knows his goals for life – to be a smart person and go to Yale to make his parents happy. He’s never really thought about dreams or his love of poetry; that’s until Natasha and Daniel meet. A sudden bond forms between them, and in only one day, they instantly fall in love. But Natasha’s time is running out – in only twelve more hours she will have to leave forever. However, she can’t help it, not with Daniel around. Without planning to, the two teenagers make that one day stand out in their lives – they make it seem like they’re the center of the universe.
True love can be a powerful weapon. It can bring people closer or tear other people away. But when you’re in love, the way Natasha describes it, chemicals form in the brain, or how Daniel describes it, it will seem as if you will be destined to be together. There are many forms of love, family love, friendship love, and romantic love, all which come from the heart.
Nicola Yoon made this book into one of the best YA romance novels I’ve ever read. The best part is, it’s not only about the love of two teenagers, but also about the stories of minor characters. Everyone in this book has their own story, not just Natasha and Daniel. It contains real life situations with romance being one of the main themes. -Lilian R, Age 15

read Instructions for Dancing by Nicola Yoon and now I am torn between being in love and having my heart being shredded into two. A good read and a good cry. Finished the book in one sitting lol
