“Until I feared I would lose it, I never loved to read. One does not love breathing.”

- To Kill a Mockingbird

I’ve started reading To Kill a Mockingbird because apparently I’m the only child who didn’t have to read this in school. I’m glad because now there’s a good chance I won’t loathe the thought of this book by the end.

Since their mother’s death, Carter and Sadie have become near strangers. While Sadie has lived with her grandparents in London, her brother has traveled the world with their father, the brilliant Egyptologist, Dr. Julius Kane.

One night, Dr. Kane brings the siblings together for a “research experiment” at the British Museum, where he hopes to set things right for his family. Instead, he unleashes the Egyptian god Set, who banishes him to oblivion and forces the children to flee for their lives.

Soon, Sadie and Carter discover that the gods of Egypt are waking, and the worst of them —Set— has his sights on the Kanes. To stop him, the siblings embark on a dangerous journey across the globe - a quest that brings them ever closer to the truth about their family and their links to a secret order that has existed since the time of the pharaohs.

I spent my childhood going to museums and my favorite exhibits were always the ones about Egypt. When I found out one of my favorite authors was writing a series about Egyptian mythology I was ecstatic! I couldn’t wait to see how Rick Riordan would weave his story.

Here are a couple of things i enjoyed about The Red Pyramid(very minor to minimal spoilers ahead):

  • The world building was phenomenal! I loved how Riordan blends his stories with realism and mythology.
  • The character building. The way the author writes his characters and makes you become attached despite your best attempts to not become attached because let’s be honest here, Mr. Riordan is not the kindest when it comes to characters. He can enjoy seeing them suffer.
  • The fact that incest is actually addressed.  There is a lot of incest in Ancient Egyptian history.  It actually makes learning more about the culture of the pharaohs a little difficult. The way Mr. Riordan handles it is graceful and leaves no doubt in your mind that there is no incest in his books.
  • I have always enjoyed how the love story is not a big deal in Riordan’s books.  It helps us keep in mind that the character are in their young teens.  No young teenager needs to worry about being in love and finding the love of their life. There is plenty of time to do that when they are older.
  • In Chapter 9 she says ‘My dear, i’m a cat everything i see is mine’.  I have always loved cats i have 3 of them. They are simply the most precious and sassy animals in the world.
  • Not many authors are comfortable about addressing race in their books but something Riordan has always done well is talk about the realities of being one race or having a specific belief.  In The Red Pyramid the relationship between PoC(in particular African American men) and the Police. He is very open and honest and states things exactly how they are. He does not gently blow this topic off(which would be difficult since one of the main characters is a PoC)
  • One of the final things I appreciated in this book is the fact that Riordan makes little references to his other books. In particular he references the Percy Jackson Series. If you have not read the Percy Jackson books you won’t understand the reference but if you do you will immediately be saying to yourself ‘I see what you did there’.

This book is perfect for anyone who wants a story that has an adventure but isn’t all consumed in romance. I feel like most adventure books are more absorbed in the romance and use that as a point to move the plot along but in my opinion none of Riordan’s books do that.  This book is technically middle grade so it is also very easy to read.

Overall I give this story 4.5 Bards!

Summary:

People say the Arthur is haunted. That the ghosts of those who entered it and never came out still dwell within the mysterious forest.

For twelve-year-old Hari, who has grown up among peasants and thieves, the Arthur is her safe haven…her home. She and the rest of her village reside in the forest in secret, living a simple life free of the king’s tyranny and the cruelties of the outside world. Then comes the day when their peace is shattered by a stranger who is on a violent rampage, murdering innocent people and burning the villages to the ground. Forced to flee her wooded sanctuary, Hari believes no place can ever be safe again.

Bitter, hurting, and frightened of what each new day holds, she embarks on a journey to save her people and learn more about her broken past. But the darkness is spreading, and if Hari cannot learn to fight it, not even the truth about her family may save her from the darkness growing inside her.

I just wanted to say I’ve been updating my Goodreads this past few days, watching a ton of book related videos, and my love for fiction, specially epic fantasies and stuff, is back.

I get Nevernight on the mail tomorrow morning and it will travel with me to Spain. I’m so excited to read a book with maps at the beginning and with it’s own freaking world. I used to be obsessed with that when I was younger and at some point I just forgot fiction even was a thing (almost though) and only read non-fiction technical books or personal development books.

Anyway, yeah, I’m pretty excited and maybe, just maybe, I can add the tag #booklr to this freaking blog at some point. Would that be random?

 Synopsis

In this story, we get the perspective of Lara Jean Covey Song. She has only ever loved 5 boys, So to get over them she would write them a love letter, and store them I her blue hatbox her mom gave her, she could pour here heart out because she was the only one that would EVER read them. But then the letters get mysteriously sent out, causing her to get confronted by her 5 first loves. Maybe something good could come out of these letters?

 My Opinion

This book was so Captivating and such a whimsical cute read. This book makes you feel so many emotions all at one, such as: Happiness, Anger, Rage, Sadness, excitement and so much more. This book was soooo good. This book didn’t feel like one of those books where you highlight and take a moral out of, (this is a good thing) It felt like I was 6 again reading fairytales, you could just sit back relax and enjoy, except this storyline is nothing like A fairytale. Be prepared and have the second book next to you because, THE ENDING… It ends on such a cliffhanger, but it builds the suspense! There are so many plot twists and twists and turns I never saw coming. It is an impossible book to put down. Jenny Han is my favorite trilogy Author I have read nearly all her books and have loved all of them. I love her style of writing. She is so Clever that she makes you think what she wants you to think. SHE IS A MANIPULATOR (in a good way).

You will like it if you are looking for a really captivating adorable trilogy (I know this is the first book review but once you done the first, you wont be able resist the next two!)

☀️The Sun is Also a Star Book Review⭐️

Have you ever felt an inexplicable connection to a stranger? An feeling that lasts a few seconds, maybe a minute, before they disappear from your life never to be seen again?

Rating: 4,89/5

Synopsis…

Natasha does not believe in fate, true love or anything that doesn’t have scientific evidence. Daniel is a poet. He believes that everything happens for a reason. They are polar opposites, but both have one thing in common… they both have their future laid out in front of them. Daniel is on his way to a Yale Appointment that his father has set up for him, he would much rather be a professional poet than a doctor. Natasha’s family are illegal immigrants, so she is been deportation back to Jamaica in 12 hours. But when they meet, in that one moment, she can’t help but think that maybe she’s been wrong her whole life.  But now’s not the time for love, or is it?

 My Thoughts…

I cold not put this book down. It was captivating and so powerful. I get goose-bumps just thinking about it. I loved how it was realistic and was not cliqued. Nicola Yoon should be applauded on her immaculate masterpiece. It mentions and/or discuses important topics like immigration, suicide, fate, love and so much more. I loved how it gave both Natasha’s and Daniel’s perspectives as well as random people that they impacted throughout the day, also their families and histories of all sorts. I could tell that Each chapter, page, paragraph, sentence, phrase, and word was perfectly thought out. The tension of the two main protagonists been absolute opposites really was lovely. After I read it I researched what the name of the book was about and it was so clever. There were so many quotes that I loved from this book, but this is my favourite “There is a Japanese phrase that I like: koi no yokan. It doesn’t mean love at first sight. It’s closer to love at second sight. It’s the feeling when you meet someone that you’re going to fall in love with them. Maybe you don’t love them right away, but it’s inevitable that you will.”

You will like it if…

You will like it if you are looking for a realistic, not cliqued but still really adorable book. I 100% would recommend this to any living, breathing person.

Smart, charming, Étienne has it all…including a serious girlfriend. But in the city of romance, could her biggest wish come true?

 My opinion…

I enjoyed this book, it was really cute read. In the moment, I loved this book, but once I thought about it a bit more, I realised this book didn’t have anything extraordinary about it. It was also a little bit cheesy and cliqued. Although all in all it was a sweet read.

When they meet, they can’t seem to get enough of each other, but Will is exactly what Stella needs right now. If he gets anywhere near her she can kiss her lung transplant dreams goodbye. The only way to stay alive is to stay away. Six feet apart at all times, that’s the rules. But soon six feet doesn’t feel like safety, it feels like punishment! Would it be so bad to steal back a little bit of space their lungs have taken from them. ONE FOOT! Five feet apart. Would it really kill they if it stops their hearts from breaking too…

My Opinion

I give this book 100% credit for my love of books!!! This book exceeded my expectations (and I thought it was going to be good) It’s impossible to sum up how I feel for this book. But here is my attempt… Five Feet Apart is my No.1 and Fave Book EVERRRR!!!! I absolutely love this book (and I properly always will) It is a breathtakingandbeautiful book which deals with powerful and important messages and concepts such as death and grief. Rachael Lippincott, mind-blowing writing!!!! I love how it is written in both characters perspectives and views and really enhancedthe whole feeling of the book. I have learnt so much from Stella and Will, not just facts, but also life lessons and morals to have, in life. I never (ever) cry when reading books, and I cried several times, not just because it was sad but because it was BEAUTIFUL. She describes each scene very precisely and vividly. This book is unforgettable!!
