The most fanciful (and improbable in regards to the laws of physics) of designs that are produced by the Atelier usually grace the form of the Illusionist…but sometimes, I admit, Tante Padva lets her soft spot for me shine and I am allowed to choose a treasure for myself. I wear them when I take tickets - the first person that patrons see in connection to the Circus has to make a striking impression, yes?

In the sweet springtime, some of the permanent residents of the Circus wear uncanny garb - beautiful and otherworldly, their eyes glowing in the soft moonlight, the night-blooming flowers turning toward them as they pass by like day-blooming blossoms lean toward the sun…

Come February, the Circus becomes subtly bedecked with signs of the approaching holiday - like these delicate wind chimes, set dancing with a chill nighttime breeze, as delicate as heartstrings…

Edible ice? Why not? Of course, most ice is edible, even beyond the fences of the Circus. But within the fences, I assure you it is much more of an exciting delicacy.

When the Night Circus resides near water in the wintry months, you can sometimes see curious figures ghosting into being beneath the frozen surfaces of lakes and rivers - gone as quickly as they appeared, but seemingly not in any type of distress. Perhaps they live there, and are drawn by the lights and sounds of the Circus…then again, aren’t we all?

Peculiar little treats, with flavors that deceive the senses - what appear to be chips of ice on winter-bare twigs taste of high summer, with bursts of fruits and fierce spices melting on your tongue. They disappear so quickly that you’re left wondering if the taste was ever there at all.

Care to venture into the Ice Labyrinth? don’t worry, you won’t freeze to death. Our tireless Magicians have made sure that you will encounter something to counteract the cold when you need it - a small cart that sells hot drinking chocolate and spiced coffee, or a selection of feather-light blankets that can cut off even the fiercest of winds (and always smell like Christmas, for some reason), or even a roaring fireplace fashioned from glacial bricks of ice that somehow never melts no matter how long you sit before it and feed logs to the pale silvery flames.

Say whatever you like about the Night Circus, but it is undeniably pleasing that you can never eat the same snowflake twice there. (Believe me, we’ve assured it - there’s magic afoot to make sure that we never repeat a single icy crystal when it comes to topping this spicy, warming gingercake…)
