“Can you come over after work?” Emily asked into the phone. “I think…we should talk.”

Emily opened the door for Aaron, who already looked confused.

“Em, why so serious?”

“Can we…talk?”

“Yes, you mentioned talking already,” Aaron said snidely. “That’s why I’m here isn’t it?”

It’s not our job as women to fix it and that’s exactly what this comic and tweet are implying.

Not only have you identified one of the primary ways by which men are being discouraged from showing emotions (incidentally did you know that women can tell men not to feel emotions too?),

but you have also, unprompted, identified one of the best ways for society to reduce the suicide rates of trans people.

Like, yes! Obviously a drought of positive feelings and compliments is having a devastating psychological effect on men! Obviouslyit discourages them from showing emotions! Obviously it’s one of the factors driving them to suicide!Obviously the best way to reduce the suicide rate of trans people is to give them the acceptance they keep telling everyone they need! You got it! Why is this ridiculous?!

It’s ridiculous because it’s not the job of women to do. Which is what this comic and tweet are implying.

It’s… It’s not ajob. Complimenting people on something you like about them is actually very normal and healthy social interaction. That’s the whole point of why it sucks that so many men don’t get compliments.

Women’s bodily autonomy is being put on the chopping block right now mainly by men.

But oh, men don’t get compliments, everyone stop the fucking world lmao.

Okay, well if I fight for women’s right to abort in *checks notes* a country I definitely don’t live in, will you spread the good word that giving men compliments is nice, actually?

No.

I thought so! And frankly that’s weird because you’re actually getting the much better end of the deal! Fighting to reverse a Supreme Court decision I don’t agree with in a country I’ve scarcely ever been to, and with no political leverage or influence over the relevant electorates or branches of government, seems like a much more difficult and more involved task than giving men you interact with compliments every once in a while!

But of course this isn’t actually about who has it worse, or how we should prioritise our activism. This is just finding an excuse to disregard men’s feelings while pretending that they are the architects of their own emotional starvation.

I know you said you weren’t a radfem, but… maybe you should just own it.

it’s “kill your rapist’ when it’s a sticker you can sell on etsy but "she’s the abuser actually” when it’s real life

It’s “abuse is wrong. Support women!” when a man is abusive but “he wasnt abused because men cant be abused” when the abuser is a woman.

I think it’s more ‘Believe the victim’ when the abuser is male, but 'How dare you call her an abuser!’ when it’s a woman.

Seriously OP, she bragged about it, and challenged him to admit to being an abuse victim because she knew he wouldn’t be believed. Of all the hills to die on, 'woman with a history of abusing her partners, male AND female’ sure as fuck shouldn’t have been the one you take your final stand on.

This is my hill to die on because stans refuse to look at literally any basic evidence and keep regurgitating the same points that have been refuted by this point. We have the full context here instead of what Waldman edited to make her look as bad as possible. She’s saying tell the world that it was a fair fight, because he’s larger and stronger so no one would reasonably believe that him hitting her is the same as when she defends herself.

And she also tells him multiple times how she thought he was going to kill her, and talks about when he hit her with the phone as she later reported when she got the RO.

And lmao really bringing up Tasya Van Ree when she herself said that there was no domestic abuse incident and that the cops were out of line. And the fact that stans have literally made up any other instance – it’s conspiracy level shit about like Elon Musk.

But then you have Johnny, who’s got an assault history going back to 1989 and will be back in court later this year for the 2018 assault of a crew member. There is a reason why she won getting the restraining order and why he lost in the UK with 12 counts proven to a civil level of abuse, and why he lost the appeal when two separate judges reviewed it.

And then even let’s talk about “mutual abuse”, which is a myth. Domestic abuse victims do not react in the ways that we might expect, and many will mouth off or fight back. They’re not wrong or “just as shitty” for doing so.

Honestly believing Johnny Depp requires levels of mental gymnastics only achieveable by misogynists and people who do not genuinely understand the dynamics of abuse.

Anyway, I’m off to enjoy my long weekend.

The problem with this argument, and we’re going to be infinitely fair here…

Is that it only works IF you start from the presumption that Amber Heard is the victim and ignore any evidence to the contrary.

The moment you step back and consider the situation from the opposite perspective, that is to say step back and consider this from the Depp side, is that you have an absolute reversal of the situation and multiple people testifying that Heard is in fact lying under oath.

Seriously, this is basic DARVO. Which anyone who has any understanding of abuse, both mental and physical can easily see.

'I was afraid you were going to kill me, so I had to hurt you by any means possible.’ and 'who are they going to believe, small me or big you’ are also classic attempts to reframe an abusive situation, to make the injured party feel like they are the villain, and that they cannot turn to authorities to seek legal redress. Again, this is actually rather classic examples, I’m shocked you overlook them so readily.

But then again, you bring up the concept of 'Mutual abuse’ specifically to deride it, while none of us here calling you on your shit even mentioned the idea. YOU brought it up, so that you could then dismiss the concept, so you could dismiss any credence to anything Depp said.

It’s because you, my dear, are a fucking Stan, just for Heard.

The irony. The complete and total irony of someone doing what they’re accusing me of, and ignoring Depp’s DARVO of the situation.

But hey, misogynists gonna misogynist.

To be honest, young lady, you don’t have to be a fan of someone’s performances to 'Stan’ them. You only have to uncritically and unashamedly hold that they can do no wrong, regardless of context.

And hell, stating 'you attacked me and cut my finger’ is not DARVO, when she openly admits that she did, in fact, attack him and cut his finger. That’s not DARVO, that’s a statement of fact, one that she doesn’t even deny. DARVO is Denial (I did nothing wrong) Attack (I thought you were going to kill me) and Reverse Victim and Offender (I need to stop this madness before I get hurt). It requires that you state 'the things I did to you are your fault’.

But then again, to look at things this way would require you to stop holding a position where the only reason why people would disagree with you is that they worship a celebrity or just hate women. It would mean that you accept that you could, even to the smallest degree, be either wrong or have been lied to.

And your ego won’t allow for that.

oh shit someone with Feminism and Mental Health in their bio description is going to lecture people on Amber Heard. Hilarious.
