Oil paints, one session, two hours, three light sources

Maybe someday I’ll open such a commissions with shipping to customers. When I’ll learn how to paint properly and more important buy good paints ‘cause my current oil paints is a trash :D

I’ve done it! Check out my Etsy store and let me know what you think! I’ve put up the Frida Kahlo Moleskine Journal so if it’s something you’re interested in definitely check it out.

Just waiting now for the Frida Kahlo painting to dry and then I’ll get it up on Etsy and away to whoever wants it

Oil painting as a medium is great (water soluble cause I hate cleaning up) but then when you leave them to dry in your palette it kinda sucks to have to attempt to salvage the palette (I was, in fact, successful)

selene-tempest:

I was speaking to Virgil earlier, you know the little random chats that come out when neither of you are doing anything in particular? It was one of those moments.

Me *watching him paint*: Which medium is your favourite?

Virg: I don’t have one.

Me: You must have, everyone has a favourite with everything.

Virg: I’m not touching that when there are five of us and you have a favourite of the day.

Me: That’s just to keep things fair. Come on, what’s your favourite?

Virg *clearly thinking about it carefully* Oil. *Points to his canvas with his brush*

Me: Oil? That looks really hard though.

Virg *shrugs , adding another careful brush stroke*:It was at first, and pretty scary. All the old masters painted in oil and I never thought I’d ever come close to being as good. I was so afraid of messing up and failing.

Me: Yet you still did it?

Virg: Yep. That’s the thing with oils, there is no such thing as failure. If you make a mistake, you wait for it to dry and paint over it. Everything can be saved, everything can be salvaged. You just have to trust yourself and try. It’s a good lesson for life too, even when something seems daunting and impossible, you should always try.

Me *staring at him like he’s a god*:

Virg : What? Why are you staring?

Me: You’re my favourite today.

Oils? I’ve never thought about even trying oils maybe….
