#NowReading Constellations by @sineadgleeson and it’s everything I expected it to be. I’m still near the beginning but I can tell I’m in for a journey. The chapter on hair brought up so many emotions within me, I had to let myself cry when I came to the end of it. Looking forward to savouring the rest of the book over the next few days.

I was struggling to get into anthologies most of this year but I can’t stop reading this one. I’m reading the essays in order of appearance and am feeling so inspired by the women in here. There are many books I read as an adult and wished I had found them when I was a teenager. I would forgo them all if I could have just this book to read, when I was 17.

It’s so powerful. I think what works for this collection is the length of each piece (short + to the point) and the sheer diversity of contributors. The book is divided into four sections:

LEARNINGS
RELATIONSHIPS
WORKS OF FICTION
NEW GROUND & BIG IDEAS

I’m starting Words of Fiction shortly and will edit this post if I have more thoughts.

I’m not even halfway through but I have decided I love this book a LOT. So experimental, so precise in the way it hurts and heals. Masterful writing by @yararodriguesfowler, you can’t tell this is a debut book. It’s out next week so make sure to treat yourself to this new kind of brilliance. You deserve it!

I read this book in one long breath. I didn’t know what to expect when I started reading WOMEN and it wasn’t what I expected. A evocative look at romantic obsession, first loves and self-destructive tendencies we all seem to harbour. I loved it. It brought back memories from a time I was less sure of myself. The act of reading this book felt like an overdue ode to the person I was.

Started reading LONG LIVE THE TRIBE OF FATHERLESS GIRLS by @tkmadden yesterday and I can honestly say I wasn’t ready for this kind of searing honesty. You think you have read it all, and then this comes along. The themes are varied and the length and weight of this book is a comforting presence in my life at the moment. I want this book to last a lifetime. As an aside, check out @jjoongie’s thoughts on the book too.

I’ve been waiting patiently for these chapbooks to arrive and they are finally here! Dived right into DESIRES BECOME DEMONS because I love everything Meena Kandasamy touches.
