Q: What’s a sequel that you can’t wait to get your hands on??
Happy Sunday, Bookworms! Are there any upcoming sequels that you can’t wait to get your hands on? One that I am SO excited for is *Chain of Iron* by Cassandra Clare! (Does a third book in a series count as a sequel? ) The book was originally supposed to release earlier this year, but then it got pushed to later this year, which made me super bummed. I shared a stack of books on Friday that I recently purchased, but I haven’t really purchased much more this month, which is interesting. Maybe it’s just a slow month for me? What’s the longest series you own? And/or, what’s the longest series you’ve read?
Happy Thursday! Do you guys see the weekend? It’s almost here! And I’m so ready for it. I’m taking advanatage of today being Thursday because I didn’t have time to take a photo yesterday and am using a throwback photo from last fall today. Just ignore the fall theme.
What’s the longest series that you own? I think the *Shadowhunter Chronicles* is the longest series that I own. If you include all the spin-off series, as I do, then it’s just one long series. I love these books so much! *City of Bones* is one of the books that made me love reading again way back when. What about you guys? What’s the longest series that you own?

Happy Monday, Bookworms! Did you have a good weekend? I hope you did! I took a much needed break from reality this weekend, and it was just what I needed. How was your weekend?
And it’s National Pet Day! Do you have any pets? We have quite a few! We have a dog, Molly, who just turned 15 yesterday. We also have two cats, Lizzie Bennet and Mr. Darcy, and four guinea pigs, Oscar & Oliver, and Hermione & Brownie. It’s always lots of fun at our house. Unfortunately I couldn’t get ANY our fur babies to cooperate long enough to take a photo this weekend, so instead I’m featuring a series that has one of my favorite felines, Grimalkin! How was your reading month for April? And what was your favorite read of the month??
Happy Saturday, Bookworms! How’s your weekend going so far? Do you have any fun plans?? What are you up to?
And did you have a good reading month? Mine was very meh. I started a whole bunch of different books this month, but only finished 3 of them, and 2 novellas as well. *Gallant* is the only physical book I read, the rest were ebooks and audiobooks. I really enjoyed them all though! And I’m hoping to finish one more book today, but I’m not sure if I will have time to or not. We shall see! What about you guys? How was your reading month?? A few weeks back, I received a package from a lovely woman my sister knows. Little did I know, this woman would turn out to be one of the most unique voices in literature I’ve come across. I finished her book in no time and I’ve been tossing and turning ideas in my head, trying to find out how I’m going to give this book a review that does it justice and is honest at the same time.
Rosehead is story about a girl *ahem, anyone singing the Nirvana song?* who believes her grandfather’s rose garden eats people. The story presents an intriguing interplay between elements of fantasy and mystery. I spent a large portion of my time reading this book stopping to think about whether I believed what was going on or whether the protagonist was making it all up. To me, it’s always an interesting experience having a seemingly unreliable protagonist - and I say seemingly, because the story unfolds beautifully.
Speaking of the protagonist, Lilith is an intelligent 12 year old girl. She is quite snarky for her age; which might seem unrealistic but I didn’t mind it. I’d rather read about unusual characters anyways. Despite her wit, I was constantly reminded that she really is just a child - through her arguments with her mother, temper tantrums and sense of adventure. I was always looking forward to her next excursion with her pet, Panther because that’s when things got really exciting.
Now on to the hard part, which is the things I didn’t like about the book. It’s hard to fault a book you like so much. That being said, I really would have liked more background in this book. I wanted to know more about her past, her “diagnosis” and her parents specially. I didn’t like that when it came to discussing what was wrong with Lilith, a few diagnoses were just rattled off (but that’s just me, I’m a med student and get irked by these things).
The book ended with a cliffhanger - which I’m not sure if it means there will be a sequel or it’s just to keep you wondering. I quite liked that the whole book kept me wondering about what’s coming next, but I would have preferred for the ending to come full circle if this is a stand-alone.
I have to applaud the author’s beautiful descriptive writing. She painted a beautiful and gory garden that I couldn’t stop picturing and I think would make for one heck of a movie. Like I mentioned before, she has quite a unique voice. I wish I could say more about the way she writes but I’m at a loss for words *pun totally intended*.
I’d like to thank Ksenia for the wonderful experience she provides through this book and for graciously sending it to me. And I hope this book reaches more people as it is highly underrated. Find Rosehead on Amazon.
I was struggling to get into anthologies most of this year but I can’t stop reading this one. I’m reading the essays in order of appearance and am feeling so inspired by the women in here. There are many books I read as an adult and wished I had found them when I was a teenager. I would forgo them all if I could have just this book to read, when I was 17.

It’s so powerful. I think what works for this collection is the length of each piece (short + to the point) and the sheer diversity of contributors. The book is divided into four sections:

I’m not even halfway through but I have decided I love this book a LOT. So experimental, so precise in the way it hurts and heals. Masterful writing by @yararodriguesfowler, you can’t tell this is a debut book. It’s out next week so make sure to treat yourself to this new kind of brilliance. You deserve it!
