#monsteramonday - getting some fresh air. - 2) I noticed the tip of a developing leaf was unable to break through its sheath. I think it would have eventually ripped through but probably not without resulting in significant deformation so I helped it along. An hour or two of direct sun on this staghorn fern is acceptable but then the plant would reach critical dryness faster, meaning that I would have to water sooner (and yes, I have to take the whole plant down, run it in the shower, wait for it to stop dripping, and then carefully lift it back onto the hook). - Light modifier: a white sheer curtain to diffuse direct sun. It’s a great way to lessen the heat stress on your plants that prefer “bright indirect light” (no need to do this for cacti). - 2) In a nursery growing tropical foliage plants, shade cloth is used for the same purpose. - Staghorn fern watering strategy: given adequate lighting, I just feel the sphagnum moss. When it reaches the point of feeling dry but still soft, then I can water sometime within the week. If I wait longer, the moss becomes hard: that’s the WATER IMMEDIATELY signal. ~ ~ #houseplants #staghornfern #platyceriumbifurcatum #platycerium #chasinglight #outsidein #natureinspired #plantparenthood #plants #plantas #plantgoals #urbanjunglebloggers #houseplantclub #plantstyling (at Toronto, Ontario)
First visit to my monstera as a married couple #monsteramonday - FAQ: plant is lit by a west facing door (seen in photo) that gets a few hours of direct sun and a large north facing window (off screen to the right). At this light level, I can safely pour in about a liter and a half of water each week when I see this plant at church. Monsteras grow as vines so what you are seeing here is 7 vines tied together against a sturdy metal trellis (they’re not rooted against the trellis). I’ve had this monstera for 4 years - for the full story, find the monstera post on my blog at www.houseplantjournal.com ~ ~ #monstera #monsteradeliciosa #outsidein #botanicalwomen #houseplants #plantlove #foliage #indoorplants #plantlife #urbanjunglebloggers #houseplantclub #plantparenthood #houseplantjournal #plants #greenthumb (at Richmond Hill, Ontario)
#monsteramonday - I haven’t seen my monstera since July 1 (when this photo was taken). I’m sure it’s doing well under the care of those I’ve trained but it will be nice to visit and see its progress next week ~ ~ #houseplants #monstera #monsteradeliciosa #keepitwild #outsidein #houseplantclub #plantstyling #houseplantjournal #plants #urbanjunglebloggers #aroidaddicts #aroid #leaflove (at Richmond Hill, Ontario)
