Lots of light? Yes, an unobstructed view of the sky floods this hallway with light.
Lots of sun? Not really. There’s a patch of direct sun that moves across the walls/floors. The parasol helps to diffuse the direct sun so these tropical foliage plants don’t burn or wilt permanently.

Think about direct sun separate from the view of the sky and you will begin to understand the daily/seasonal variations of light. Treat them as the same thing, and you’ll be confused.

This is my biggest leaf so far - its green is deepening to be like its peers. 2) Here’s the leaf from last week where I had to extract it from the sheath: it’s the smallest leaf I’ve seen that features midrib holes. I’m keen to see whether the leaf will grow much larger or whether having been stuck in the sheath early on will stunt its growth

Marimo ball owners: have you ever noticed your ball sometimes afloat and other times not?

1) ball is resting at the bottom right now (8:30am).
2) ball was floating last night around midnight.

What could cause this change in buoyancy? Is it metabolic activity differences between night and day? I haven’t touched or disturbed the water in the past 2 weeks and I’m certain I’ve noticed it both floating and sinking. Thanks for your votes on the pot color for my Stephania venosa. I think the usual pot that’s paired with a caudex is a dark terracotta or charcoal color so I suppose people wanted to see it in a different style. Until some foliage grows, I’ll just photograph it in front of some showy calatheas

FAQ: plant is lit by a west facing door (seen in photo) that gets a few hours of direct sun and a large north facing window (off screen to the right). At this light level, I can safely pour in about a liter and a half of water each week when I see this plant at church. Monsteras grow as vines so what you are seeing here is 7 vines tied together against a sturdy metal trellis (they’re not rooted against the trellis). FAQ: pot is from @dynastytoronto, there is no drainage hole but I prefer it that way so water doesn’t get onto the shelf. Look closely and you’ll see the plant is potted in a plastic nursery pot, which I prefer for moisture control. I can remove the inner pot and water it at the sink. “No drainage hole” is not a problem when light is right and roots are working.

1) recorded over several weeks in April 2018. I only caught the first two blooms.

2) August 2018: the phalaenopsis was in full bloom about a month ago and currently on display near the dining table.

3) I estimate that by the end of September, the white blooms will have fallen off, at which time the plants will be returned to their grow space - patio doors facing west. Then we can select a different orchid to bring down for display - the orchid rotation system
