Another tarot deck!!

I bought another tarot deck! It’s The Bastards tarot deck designed by Emerson Barrett from Palaye Royale. Like a month before it was announced I said to a friend that emerson should totally design a tarot deck bc it would suit his style so well and idk I guess the gods heard me thanks Loki, you sneaky ass motherfucker. Anyway, it won’t come for ages bc it’s a preorder that ships on the 5th of November but the preorder is $5 cheaper than it will be after the shipping date so it’s definitely worth the wait.

The deck is $22 USD which is £17.03, for a contemporary deck, that’s actually pretty cheap, but if you in the uk like I am… the shipping is another $20 so the total comes to $42 which is about £32.50 which is a little expensive but before the deck came out I was kinda expecting it to cost that much BEFORE shipping prices, so I was happy to pay it… even though I’m now broke

The deck apparently has 130+ cards as opposed to the classic 78 card deck. From what I know, it has the 78 card rider waite deck completed reimagined, and then just a whole load of completely new cards, so it’ll be really interesting to do readings with.

Really excited for this deck!!!

The Bastards Tarot Deck

The deck designed by Emerson Barrett of Palaye Royale arrived!!

It took a while because it was imported from the USA to Scotland, I missed the delivery last Wednesday, it was rescheduled to arrive on friday, but it didn’t, then it was rescheduled again again a arrived on Tuesday, but that’s ok.

Ok. The deck. Its stunning. The packaging is a red box, with a top that folds over and seals with magnets

The cards themselves are gold edged (which looks amazing) and have glitter. The glitter comes off on your hands at first, but when I was looking at them last night, there was no glitter left of my hands, so I think all the excess glitter had come off by that point. The cards were all quite stuck together at first, by I think it was just due to edging sticking and after shuffling them, they move and shuffle as smoothly as a deck that was never stuck in the first place (and separating the cards was pretty satisfying), although while they don’t stick, shuffling is still a little tricky with these cards due to the edge being slightly tacky (I would assume that the use of glitter requires some kind of glue or glue like paint) and the cards being of thick cardstock. The cardstock does mean that the cards are good quality a durable though, which is good.

There’s the original 78 and there’s 50+ (52, I think) original cards. Half of which serve as art cards, the other half are also intended as art cards (I think) but can actually function as a a mini Oracle deck, because they’re all named in a similar manner to Oracle decks. They could also be added to the deck to be used as extra major arcana cards.

The designs are beautiful, although some of them are a little tricky to read. If you are already very familiar with the standard Rider Waite deck, then it isn’t difficult to read, but I wouldn’t recommend this as a first deck, as it doesn’t have any kind of guide book or leaflet to say what each card means. The the cards predominantly use a colour scheme of black white and red, witch splashes of other colours. I split deck into light decks and dark deck, usually depending on border colour and and general colour scheme, and I would consider this one a dark/black deck.

I’ve only done 2 reading with this deck so far, one before I cleansed it and one after. Before I cleansed the deck, it was full of all kinds of bad mojo, but after one simple cleansing and getting to know the deck, the bad mojo is completely gone.

Fml it was supposed to arrive today but no one was here so now it’s coming on friday instead. Oh well… 2 days isn’t bad at all! If if I did have to pay an extra £12.50 for customs I may or may not have got my dad to pay it… bc I am a child.
