Non-human Michael

Okay, cool visual. Much opening with less dialogue, similar to 2001 A Space Odyssey. Slow development with decent build. Major plot aspect not as advertised, kinda leaves you wonder if likable character in Pratt. Still plenty happy middle section before big development. Kinda fun robot character, but again not necessarily likable, especially with plot twist. Fitting initial ending with Pratt and J-Law, but kinda wonder *SPOILER HERE* how does everyone feel about wake up and go “oh look, here’s 2 random dead bodies.” Still, decent sci-fi movie. Not great, but plenty entertaining. 3 Paws.

PASSENGERS (Morten Tyldum, 2016)

Finally caught this over the New Year’s weekend. I initially thought the movie was a bit of mess storytelling-wise and kind of middle of the road as far as entertainment value. But the more I have thought about it the past few days, the less I like Passengers.

*SPOILERS*
And it all boils down to that moment in the plot where Jim (Chris Pratt) essentially “kidnaps” Aurora (Jennifer Lawrence) and dooms her to death with him on the ship. It’s supposed come off as a big moral dilemma for Jim. Instead, it’s just him being selfish and willing to negate Aurora’s own plans for her future because he’s lonely. Also troublesome is Aurora’s willingness (eventually) to still love Jim after she finds out what he has done. It’s all very Stockholm syndrome and taints everything that comes after it … especially the “we lived the rest of our lives in happiness” ending.

These are Rae and Ney. They are sibling, Rae is about 5 years older and the are both genasis with half-elven heritage. I’ll be playing Ney and one of my best friends will be Rae in a campaign we will be starting soon, I’m very excited!

I often think about the Met Operas Hamlet (2010) and their armour + trench coat aesthetic
