The Ring Nebula (M57), is more complicated than it appears through a small telescope. The easily visible central ring is about one light-year across, but this remarkably deep exposure shows in detail the looping filaments of glowing gas extending much farther from the nebula’s central star. This image, taken by combining data from three different large telescopes, includes red light emitted by hydrogen as well as visible and infrared light. The Ring Nebula is an elongated planetary nebula, a type of nebula created when a Sun-like star evolves to throw off its outer atmosphere to become a white dwarf star. The Ring Nebula is about 2,500 light-years away from us here on Earth.

This gallery shows four planetary nebulas from the first systematic survey of such objects in the solar neighborhood made with NASA’s Chandra X-ray Observatory. The planetary nebulas shown here are NGC 6543 (aka the Cat’s Eye), NGC 7662, NGC 7009 and NGC 6826. X-ray emission from Chandra is colored purple and optical emission from the Hubble Space Telescope is colored red, green and blue. A planetary nebula is a phase of stellar evolution that the sun should experience several billion years from now, when it expands to become a red giant and then sheds most of its outer layers, leaving behind a hot core that contracts to form a dense white dwarf star.

A wind from the hot core rams into the ejected atmosphere, creating the shell-like filamentary structures seen with optical telescopes. The diffuse X-ray emission is caused by shock waves as the wind collides with the ejected atmosphere. The properties of the X-ray point sources in the center of about half of the planetary nebulas suggest that many central stars responsible for ejecting planetary nebulas have companion stars.

themegamaryam:

“You know, I really ought to do stuff like this more~” Jane said to nobody in particular, letting out a contented sigh as she relaxed in the hot sauna water. Her pure white and red form taking up quite a bit of the luxury bath befitting an empress of her status. “I work myself to the bone for my empire, I really need to learn to pamper myself now and then~”

Meanwhile, what was a pleasant bath for Jane was chaos for billions as the oceans of a world’s continents were suddenly replaced with an infinite boiling sea, the bathwater of their god-empress’ spa. Apparently they’d displeased her somehow, and she felt that killing two birds with one stone would be good to still keep today productive. Doling out punishments was one of her major hobbies, so this would still be a treat for her.

Droplets of water off of her raised thick leg would flood entire nations worth of land as she playfully adjusted her position, the splash alone causing cataclysmic earthquakes and tsunamis. The nations of the tiny world now adjusting to the steam of the bath and seeing the distant and blurry god-empress in the distance of the tub. Her colossally curvaceous form bare as can be, not even caring about her modesty in their presence. She’d playfully lean forward soon, and her dripping wet bust would just barley tap the northern regions of their lands, billions being smothered under the waters and crushed into rubble soon to be lost among the waters of the hot bath.

The lands that remained intact would find her lowering her bust-line beneath the waters, getting close enough her vast cute but colossal face took up all the steamy sky, and then all of a sudden her monolithically massive bust rose again, taking the continents with them. The landmasses perfectly dangled between her breasts, almost falling into her cleavage.

With a giggle and a buck toothed smile and wink she’d pull apart her chest, letting the continents fall between the massive monochrome mammaries, and with a slap smash them together, utterly reducing the entire planet to dust. Grinding her red and white boobs together and giggling to both make sure the job was done and enjoy the process, she slunk back down into the hot waters, letting the bath cleanse the planetary debris from her chest.

Yep, she will *definitely* be doing this more often~

Swirls of Jupiter

Jupiter is a very stormy, turbulent, violent planet. The planet completes a day (or one complete rotation) within roughly 10 hours, which creates massive winds, producing these swirls, and violent storms. The fast rotation coupled with the fact that the planet is nothing but gas greatly multiplies the Coriolis effect. Earth too has a Coriolis effect, this creates the characteristic hurricane shapes and also contributes to the fact that storms will spin the opposite direction in different hemispheres. Luckily, our rotation is slower - our storms are less frequent and less violent than they would be if our days were shorter.

The above images come from the recent Juno mission by NASA.

Lots of people always ask me, what is the difference between signs in houses and planets in houses?

Seen it described perfectly.  Signs in house are the attitude you carry toward that house.  This is because the signs are resource traits that are applied toward matters of a house.

Planets in the houses cause problems. Simple as that. Even so called Benefics like Sun, Venus and Jupiter cause issues. Sun burns where it sits and dries things out.  It’s consistent but isn’t nessacerally equipped to handle change and shifts. Venus brings great pleasure through a house, but pleasure in many ways depends on resources we have to exchange for it. If our 2nd or earth houses are barren we can struggle with the money to maximize happiness potential. Jupiter can bring you such hope and faith things will turn out well in a house, but doesn’t promise your going to want to apply the work to make it happen. So there is laziness there.

Now the million dollar question. Do planets in houses supersede signs in houses? Depends. That is why you study the nature of a planet in a sign, or house.  If the resources the planet use through the sign lack resonance, the planet can cause more issues in the house. The more capability you see with planet in a sign, the more likely it doesn’t disrupt and makes solving issues in that house easier.

If no planet exists in a house, we may live that house out as per our attitude toward matters of that houses (based on the sign ruling the cusp.) Nothing really gets in the way, which is great, because when things go wrong an attitude adjustment might all we need to make a house work better.

People are going to visit an astrologer because a planet is causing disruptions in a house. Sign on a house cusp are oft business as usual. Sometimes that can modify with more advanced chart techniques, but for a majority 20% of the work is going to help 80% of the people. No planet in house good.  Planet in House oft bad.

My favourite single issue comics of all time (as in self contained/stand alone ya feel me)

  • Moon Knight #5 (2014) - All down to the art by Shelvey. Chef kiss.
  • Avengers: The Initiative #13 (2008) - Shed unmanly tears
  • Hitman #34 - won the 1999 Eisner Award for best single issue.
  • Action Comics #775 (2001) - Superman at his best? Probably.
  • Planetary #3 (1999) - So many great issues in this series but this is my fave.
  • Global Frequency #9 (2003) - Lee Bermejo is on top form in this messed up tale. Most of GF was great and they’re all technically single issues.
  • Hellblazer #11 - Newcastle (1988) - My home town.
  • Ultimate X-Men #41 (2004) - A young mutants becomes active and his power is everyone around him bursts into flames and dies. Someone made a fan film of it.
  • Midnighter #7 (2007) - It’ll all make sense.
  • G.I. Joe #21 (1984) - This is a silent issue. There is not a single word spoken nor are there any sound effects. This is a masterclass in storytelling.

  • Hellboy #6 - The Corpse (1995)
  • Planetary/Batman: Night on Earth (2003) - A fourth Ellis comic. Sorry. Worth it just for the many different Cassaday Batmans. Wasn’t gonna include this as it’s a crossover and meant to be a single issue.

First, what are aspects

Simply put, aspects are the relationships made between planets. It’s how their energies interact with one another mathematically. Aspects (geometrically) are the slices of our Natal wheel, the Zodiac Circle. This circle adds up to 360 degrees. Half of the circle will give you 180 degrees, or an opposition. Dividing this circle into four equal parts will give you 90 degrees, or a square.

The Conjunction:

image

Conjunctions are planets that are very close together falling 0-10 degrees away from each other. Conjunctions can be described as easy as well as hard aspects depending on which planets are involved in the conjunction. A conjunction is the integration of two planetary energies. For instance, a Sun conjunct Venus aspect would indicate the Sun’s ego blends well with Venus’s grace and charm making for an optimistic, social individual on a surface level. This would be considered an “easy” conjunction. However, Mars conjunct Saturn would be a more difficult conjunction as Mars may feel restricted under Saturn’s rules and regulations, expressing themselves could seem harder, or center their energy on success and work while desensitizing them to emotion. Conjunctions typically fall under the same sign but there are still Out-of-Sign Conjunctions which are planets 0-10 degrees away from each other but occupying different signs.

The Opposition:

image

In case you didn’t get an inkling by it’s name, this is a hard aspect. Like mentioned above, oppositions are 180 degrees apart, meaning planets that are in opposition to one another are directly across each other on the wheel. Forexample the 1st house opposes the 7th house, the 2nd house opposes the 8th. Oppositions are like two energies on a seesaw, one goes up the other goes down. These two energies need balancing as they can swing from extreme to extreme. For instance, someone with moon opposite Pluto would struggle with integrating their emotional needs and comfort with their desire for power, control and strength. Creating a “ticking time bomb” like individual, due to suppressing (Pluto) their emotions (moon) for long periods of time till it all bubbles up to the surface resulting in explosions and outbursts. Oppositions are not a death sentence and can be remedied. In fact, oppositions are quite complimentary energies to one another, as the saying goes “Opposites attract.” (Determine what Signs Oppose each other here.)

The Square:

image

Squares are formed by 90 degree angles and for the most part can be found by counting three houses away from each other. Squares are also regarded as difficult aspects as the planetary energies here are having difficulty blending together. I usually describe a square between two planets as the planets are having a consistent argument between each other. They’re fighting. Squares highlight our inner conflicts and where we are challenged.Sun square moon would highlight where our emotional nature conflicts with our ego and outer persona. Squares lead to the most growth as they cause the most stress. Here is where we are challenged again and again until we get it right. Knowing the source of these conflicts give us a better handle on them and more control. (Determine what Signs Square each otherhere.)

The Trine:

image

Trines are formed by 120 degree angles, mathematically found by dividing the Zodiac circle by three. Trines are very easy aspects as the two planetary energies integrate harmoniously without any effort. Trines are the talents that come naturally to us, without a second thought. Here are the things that “fall into our lap.” At times these energies flow so easily through us we don’t even notice them, so a lot of times our trines are overlooked and taken for granted. For example, Moon trine Neptune can indicate a natural empathic and intuitive nature, easily picking up on energies of their environment and others. However, these individuals can have a tendency to ignore/distrust their inner voice and intuition telling them that someone is giving off a bad vibe. (Determine what Signs Trine each other here.)

The Sextile:

image

If you divide the Zodiac Circle by six you’d end up with a 60 degree angle, which is half a trine, or in other words a Sextile. The Sextile functions a lot like the trine except that it requires a bit of effort. These energies reflect our potential gifts and talents that we have to tap into. Unlike the trine, these energies are more apparent to us. For instance, Venus sextile Neptune can point to potential artistic abilities, the individual may have always had a quiet yearning to indulge in the arts. It’s not until they pick up a paintbrush and discover that they’re a Picasso incarnate. This is a harmonious aspect as the planetary energies here work together as friends. The Sextile points to gifts and skills  we can access with ease. We work fluently and efficiently with ourselves here. (Determine what Signs Sextile each other here.)

This is the Eight Burst Nebula!

The bright white dwarf at the center of this planetary nebula results in this rainbow glow from its intense ultraviolet radiation. The beautiful structure of this nebula is known to arise from the death of a Sun-like star, but its asymmetry draws questions to this day!

This is the Trifid Nebula!

This nebula’s unique name comes from the 3 dark bands of dust that traverse its center. Despite the nebula itself holding many massive stars, it is no longer undergoing star formation because these highly radiative stars have blown a lot of the dust away!
