#prepositions
Some more prepositions which trigger the Genitive case are:
während -> over / during
wegen -> because of
jenseits -> on the far side of
abseits -> apart from
anhand -> by means of / with the aid of
mithilfe -> with the help of
Oh and - if you need some help remembering what the Genitive actually is, read this!
Yeah, I know. I’ve posted lots of preposition in the past. But there are just so many! And they are all important. And as we already know, they trigger a particular case.
Today, I wanna mention some which trigger the Genitive case. There are some that people use with the Dative case - but that’s colloquial and should be avoided. It’s kind of a problem nowadays. Poor Genitive has been struggling for a while now. There are even books talking about the slow death of the Genitive case.
Anyway. Here are a few prepositions:
anstatt -> instead of
statt -> instead of
außerhalb -> outside of
innerhalb -> within / inside of
trotz -> despite
bis / bis zu is another important preposition. It is basically the contrary of the preposition we learned last time - ab. Bis / bis zu also requires the dative case, if followed by a noun.
local: end of a movement from A to B
Laufen Sie bis zum Bahnhof. Walk (until) to the station.
temporal: end of a time period
Ich werde biszum Sonntag bleiben. I will stay until Sunday.
(zum = zu + dem)
“ab” is both a temporal and local preposition. If followed by a noun, the dative case is required.
local: movement from A to B
Ab Berlin nehmen Sie bitte den Zug. Starting in Berlin, please take the train.
temporal: beginning of a period
Ich werde ab Montag im Urlaub sein. I will be on vacation from Monday onwards.
Some prepositions alwaystake the partitiivi following them. Some of them are
monta
pari
vähän
puoli
paljon
ennen
NOTE: The difference between monta and paljon is that paljon can occur with both ainesanat andother words, whereas monta can neveroccur with ainesanat. So you can say paljon ruokaa (ruoka = ainesana) and paljon omenoita, but you cannot say monta ruokaa, only monta omenaa, which is the same as paljon omenoita. So monta + partitive singular is the same as paljon + partitive plural
Next in the upcoming Pride Dragon Bagons Kickstarter is the Bi Pride Dragon Bagon.
After a veryclose contest with the Purple base design, the pink base Bi Pride Dragon Bagon won this spot and is very pleased about it. They can’t wait to hoard your dice and keep them safe forever and ever and ever (they may even be open to negotiation if you want to roll the dice sometimes.)
Follow us for updates and the launch announcement soon.
There’s going to be a bice bagon Kickstarter! Big Hype for this one (or should I say big bipe, but that’s a pretty bad pun even bi my standards)
Current Bideas I’m working on as characters I plan to use if my main campaign characters die:
- Tabaxi warlock with the raven queen patron
- Gnome mystic who chose order of the wu jen
- Tabaxi rogue with thief specialty
- Gnome wizard with theurgy, probably a Garl Glittergold patron
- Firbolg druid with circle of land: swamp
- Grung fighter with monster hunter specialty
- Kenku cleric worshipping Vulcan (Roman pantheon) under forge domain
- Orc fighter as either a sharpshooter or a samurai (because who wouldn’t fall in love with the concept of a samurai orc?)
- Wildhunt Shifter as a horizon walker ranger
- Simic Hybrid monk who chose way of the open hand
- Tortle barbarian who chose path of the zealot
- Triton druid who chose circle of twilight
None of them have names yet. They’re all bi, genderqueer, and make atrocious amounts of puns.
This is Bilben Daergel, level 5 gnome mystic who chose order of the wu jen (option 2). Bilben’s name is pronounced “Bi Ben,” because the “L” is silent. Yesterday with their deep gnome and earth genasi friends, Bilben defeated a salamander (the fire elemental, not the tiny beast), then lost a drinking contest to their deep gnome friend.
As you can see, not only is his name a bi pun, he also has a bi flag under the treasure category, where it belongs.
This is Smasher Whistler, level 1 kenku cleric who chose the forge domain of Vulcan, Roman god of blacksmithing (rolled option 7 on my bice-12 as suggested bi@fallout-and-dragon-age. While originally from the Underdark, they are a far traveler ready to go on any adventure.
