And last 3d piece i’ll upload is the final walk cycles I did for the Drossel model I made. Could still use improvements on timing and had a lot of little details I would have liked to tweak but for my first fully made and fully rigged 3D model i’m pretty happy with it.

“Don’t Lose Heart” - Animated Short Film

A young girl waits for her heart transplant; however, her transplant cooler gets lost in transit and must make it back to her before time runs out.

My thesis film is out!

The people at the fancy marina did not find my Marvin the Martian voice hilarious when I asked “But where are the booms?” Honestly, what must it be like to be that boring.

More rigging and animation fun. This time inspired by Twin Peaks. Why not :)

this page is still on a hiatus, just decided to post a draft ♥︎

Quick demo of a toolbox model/rig I made. The box is a real rusty ol’ metal thing I found at Goodwill. The mechanism that opens it is deceptively complex, but I got the rig to function in a way that it can open (and correctly move all the hinges) with a single control.

Model, textures, rig, and animation by me.

More here!

I may have finally tracked down and removed the previously mentioned bug that was causing the legs to periodically/randomly be misaligned with the actual controls in the usual inconsistent-Maya-bug style.  The drawback to the fix is that, to fix it, I had to delete the nodes that allowed the legs to stretch beyond their normal length.  It appears that this hasn’t fixed the problem where adding or modifying keyframes on the rig would have the random chance to cause the entire program to freeze for 2-5 minutes the instant I switch to a different frame, but that problem is easier to deal with since it doesn’t affect the resulting animation.

These rig bugs are confusing to deal with for many reasons, considering how many variables play into them.  I don’t remember having this problem while working with this character on the school’s computers while working on Ram’s Horn at BYU.  As it is, not only is my version of Maya two years newer (possible version incompatibilities), I’m running Windows instead of Cent OS, on different hardware (my old AMD 1090T vs. newer Intel workstations with more modern architectures), and I might not have saved the latest version of the rig from the school’s server to my USB drive at the time.

Current progress on Goatfrey - I have his limb joints rigged, complete with bendy joint chains.  I haven’t bound the skin to anything.  I still need to figure out how I’m handling the spine and his head.  Plus, the geometry in the rig file is pretty old.

I’ve also been getting some good results in Renderman, though due to changes in Goatfrey’s geometry, the xGen fur broke.  I’m going to hold off on redoing the fur at the moment, so he’ll be a little bit naked for the time-being.

Recently, I’ve been swamped with work for uni, as once again it’s the time for deadlines, deadlines… and deadlines. So just to share something a bit different, this is one of the characters for a game that I have been working on, it was supposed to be a rather simple, stylised character.

It was a bit of a challenge, as when it comes to my work in 3D I am really interested in hyper-realism. But I definitely learnt a lot, especially when it comes to rigging, and I have to say - I admire anyone who chooses to do rigging for a living, as it was great fun when everything worked, but one small mistake can fork up SO MUCH… and good luck finding it ♥ I was definitely driving all the people around me crazy.

Oh and this is a character from my previous concept art post :)

Here is a little test for rigged model, there’s various pose/animation samples on Mixamo, and I just can’t get over with this one

Little update on what I’ve been doing. I’ve been rigging that e102 Gamma model from a million years ago in Maya. I haven’t been getting a lot of time to sit down and work with it because of other responsibilities.

He’s really close to being done and I’m excited to keep showing more of this project as it goes. I’ve been more active posting about actual stuff on my Twitter, so if you wanna see stuff go check it out!
