“Lyanna was beautiful,” Arya said, startled. Everybody said so. It was not a thing that was ever said of Arya.

Lyanna Stark

The Winter Rose. I kind of love her and think the way the show filmed … and wig-ed a certain wedding? Heck naw, they deserved better.

I’ve known more or less from the start of this GoT redesign that I wanted to draw some of the ladies from the time before Robert’s Rebellion. There’s no way I could resist. Also thinking about the previous generation’s fashion really helped me in keeping a visual timeline since fashion changes and adapts with the times and the people in such fascinating ways.

I knew I wanted a sort of hold-over sideless surcoat/outer gown (bridge things between future & Jenny’s era), and I wanted to reference Arya’s first redesign dress as well as other fancy medieval details (button sleeves). She should probably have the silver broaches but if I could remember everything all the time… life would be so much easier. I used blue as her accent color for obvious reasons but the overall effect is still grey.

Princess Elia, Princess Rhaenys, and baby Prince Aegon.

There’s no way I would draw character’s from pre-Robert’s Rebellion and not draw these three. (And kitty Ballerion of course). Initially Elia’s dress was really challenging, I wasn’t sure how much Targaryen fashion would influence her wardrobe. Since this is the Mad King we’re talking about, I ended up mostly skewing Targaryen with the dorne sari/sash, neckline, jewelry and orange-reds instead of purple-reds.

Rhaenys is dressed in fairly classic Targaryen fashions but with mostly gold accents and some Dornish jewelry. (She’s also accompanied by Ballerion the Cat). And baby Aegon is chillin in some Targaryen red-purple.

Young Catelyn Tully

Of course I drew Lysa because I was thinking about drawing Cat ;D.

Cat and Lysa’s fashion should (of course) emulate each other in this time period. But… I guess we can think of it as Cat getting the “deluxe” version since she’s the eldest/most eligible sister and things like this feed into a lifetime of sibling jealousy and inferiority complexes.

Young Cersei Lannister

There’s no way I’d draw characters from the Tourney at Harrenhall and not include a young Cersei.

I’ve said when Cersei’s wardrobe started to gradually shift into something more like “when she was younger”…. it is more Burgundian in style and is more subtle in some respects, but it has the Targaryen-emulating bodice designs and of course a lion’s mane of gold hair.

Young Lysa Tully

I had a little too much fun thinking about the younger versions of some of the GoT parents around the time of the Tourney. Lysa might seem like an odd choice as one of very few to highlight from this time…. but I was really interested in the contrast & similarities I could explore with her previous fashion/redesign.

This era (?) of Tully fashion decidedly makes it’s return about 20 years later but with some variation. The bodice structure and front seams are much more structural while these resemble the designs on previous sideless surcoats/medieval over gowns. Aka the similarities are there, hopefully you can see them but also the subtle ways they are different as well.
