Harry’s House is literally keeping me sane! And Matilda? Balances it out! I go insaneee when I listen to it. I’m so sorry if you relate to that song, you just don’t deserve it love, come lets cry together :(

But other than that…I claimed 4 tracks, being the selfish bitch for Harry that I am hehe, they were 1,6,7 and 13 and oh lord was I the happiest after listening to it! I do really love keep driving though, wish I had claimed that too :(

The Space Race Begins!

Today is the 60th anniversary of the launch of Sputnik, but the first use of the word satellite to indicate a man-made object was 1936, over twenty years before the Russians actually created a viable satellite with their launch on October 4, 1957.

The word Sputnik-(in Russian Cпутник-1-anticipating more satellites, the Russians already called it Sputnik 1) is the combination of the Russian preposition c- (thes- sound, when added to the beginning of a Russian word means with) and the Old Church Slavonic root word potimeaning aroad, wayorjourney, ultimately meaning a traveling companion.Sputnik 1 broadcast its simple radio signal for 22 days before falling silent in at the end of October, 1957. Roughly 2 feet in diameter and weighing almost 200 pounds, Sputniklaunched Russia to the forefront of the space race. Even most Russians, though, were unaware of the significance of the event-the ‘headline’ event in Pravda (see image above) did not hit the front page of the newspaper until October 6, although it made the front page of the New York Times on October 5!

Who won the Space Race?  Depends on when it began, but it also depends on where the race is now and where it will end.  When the Space Race was at its height, no one could have imagined a day when a continously manned Space Station would be jointly run by the United States and Russia with a consortium of nations contributing.  We are all winning the Space Race!

President Eisenhower’s Dark Christmas Card

Launched on December 18, 1958, a little over a year after the Soviet Union stunned the world with the launch of Sputnik, Project SCOREused an Atlas rocket as the basis for the world’s first communication satellite. SCOREwas the culmination of six months of intense work by ARPA and was designed with two clear goals-first to show that the United States had the technical capability to put a rocket in orbit and second to show that a space-based satellite could transmit a message from distant ground-based locations via the upper atmosphere. SCOREstood for Signal Communications by Orbiting Relay Equipment and delivered a very simple Christmas message from President Eisenhower, making it the first human voice message transmitted from space:

This is the President of the United States speaking. Through the marvels of scientific advance, my voice is coming to you from a satellite circling in outer space. My message is a simple one:Through this unique means I convey to you and to all mankind, America’s wish for peace on Earth and goodwill toward men everywhere.

Eisenhower’s message had a darker purpose-it signaled to the Soviet Union that the United States had the capability to put a missile in space as much as telecommunications systems. Merry Christmas, indeed!

This is the Small Magellanic Cloud!

The size and shape of this satellite galaxy makes it a dwarf and irregular galaxy. With its orbital partner, the Large Magellanic Cloud, the pair orbits the Milky Way once every 1.5 billion years and orbits each other once every 900 million years!

The Launch of the first artificial object on the orbit of Earth. It was soviet satellite Sputnik-1 (or SP-1) :)). It happened on 4.10.1957.
It was drawn for 60th anniversary of the event, in 2017.

On June 12, 1975, the Nimbus 6 satellite was launched as part of the Nimbus Earth Observation Satellites. These satellites were used to do meteorological research. Nimbus 6 took the first satellite measurements of atmospheric temperature at different altitudes.
