Eugene A. Cernan, Commander, Apollo 17 salutes the flag on the lunar surface during extravehicular activity (EVA) on NASA’s final lunar landing mission. The Lunar Module “Challenger” is in the left background behind the flag and the Lunar Roving Vehicle (LRV) also in background behind him. While astronauts Cernan and Schmitt descended in the Challenger to explore the Taurus-Littrow region of the Moon, astronaut Ronald E. Evans, Command Module pilot, remained with the Command/Service Module (CSM) “America” in lunar-orbit.

Schmitt knew this guy was sus, but their brief scuffle all but confirmed it! Now also on the alert, Hans joins him to confront the mysterious stranger in this deluxe panel from Avania No.5, page 4.
Lieutenant Schmitt finds the tables suddenly turned on him as the suspicious stranger proves he possesses more than just a pretty face! This is one of my favorite shots from @avaniacomic chapter 10, which is fortunate because it’s one of the few wide shots in the chapter I can make a deluxe version of, due to the action of the scene leaving less room for fancy backgrounds.
On the tail of a mysterious man, Lieutenant Schmitt runs into opposition in an unexpected form…
This scene is a deluxe version of the credits page from Issue No.5, and though it is already a large splash page, I really liked how the night lighting and dark shading turned out. I think it makes the momentary standoff quite dramatic!
