Experts call for a rethink on guidelines about children’s screen time

The amount of time children spend using screens, such as televisions and computers, on a daily basis exceeds recommended guidelines, according to research published in open access journal BMC Public Health. These guidelines were drawn up at a time when tablets, cell phones and other mobile devices were not as present in everyday life, which suggests they need to be redrafted.

Prolonged use of screens by children is associated with adverse physical and mental health outcomes, such as increased risk of depression and anxiety in adolescent girls. Although the present study does not look directly at health effects on children, it is part of a longitudinal study which will.

As we all know, getting quality sleep is important to help our bodies and minds refresh and regenerate for each new day. If you want to avoid those pitfalls that come from a lack of sleep or some of the other health-related problems caused by lack of sleep, check out this list.

Screen Time for 7.21 Homecoming

For reference here are the screen time numbers per regular character.  For reference purposes Drizella, Alice, Gothel, and Robin were included despite not being regulars in this season.  Former main cast are be counted on a different graph.

Please remember that screen time doesn’t necessarily reflect the importance of those characters to the story.  Adam rightly points out that Darth Vader has very little screen time in the original Star Wars movie and Rumple only has a couple of minutes of screen time in the pilot.

Earlier seasons can be found here.

Editor’s Note:  This graph counts Henry/Wish Henry and Rumple/Wish Rumple together.  If you are curious I have break down graphs but this is done here to be consistent with previous rules set for the screen time graphs.

I’m completely not a winter person. I lost all my motivation at winter. Can’t wait for the spring ☆

Anyway winter this year is so warm I’m afraid of what summer brings us. I’m scared of the drought.

Here are some tips that help us prevent the drought

  • save as much water as you can
  • don’t mow your lawn too often the grass is natural water store ;)
  • also try to  protest against mowing grass in parks and removing green areas
  • save trees, support organisations planting trees, use ecosia
  • plant something in your garden or your area ;)
  • recycle!
  • help to clean up the Earth
  • go less waste ;)
  • avoid consumerism
  • reduce your screen time ;)
  • eat less meat, try to grow your own food
  • when it’s hot water your plants with rainwater and greywater

Together we can make a change!
