A free-thinking volunteer, whose beliefs have been deemed unorthodox by the organization, yet do not rightfully disqualify them as a member. As a story writer, their tales contain abstract symbols and anecdotes that encourage thought and contemplation–but perhaps, as some wary volunteers have suggested–to a level that might compel young initiates to rebel and refuse their training. Some VFD educators have banned their stories from being taught in classrooms, whereas other volunteers welcomed their ideas and claimed them as necessary for the progress of the organization. In fact, some of their stories have been adapted into songs, which you might hear as you pass by your local jazz club.

A scholastic volunteer, working in Baghdad’s House of Wisdom as a bookkeeper during the day and as a genetic engineer during the night. With her work, she aims to create a bacterial strain that protects books from mold and fire-starters alike. Inexplicably for her, and much to her perturbation, she has found herself the target of curious incidents in which she was mistaken for another brunette with bangs and inventive tendencies.
Dated during the brief period in which the Baudelaire orphans assumed different identities following their return from The Island.

A devoted volunteer, on their way to a local bar in 776 Light Avenue to perform songs with a couple of friends to a largely unsuspecting crowd. Fellow volunteers who frequent the bar, however, claim to have gleaned vital information from the lyrics, which upon decryption, enabled them to track down the elusive Baudelaires. Once every fortnight, and as they lie in bed, this volunteer wonders if it is wise to sing such songs as they question the morality of their associates. To soothe their state of perplexity, they have decided to find the Baudelaires themself and have a much needed talk about VFD, at the stake of compromising their allegiance to the organization.
Dated one year after VFD discovered that the Baudelaire orphans survived the shipwreck.
Violet Baudelaire, investigating mysterious indentations in doorways and other wooden surfaces that, upon close inspection, turned out to be hidden messages between three correspondents. Their identities are yet to be determined.
Dated four years after she thought she would never have to deal with those three individuals again.

A never-seen-before photograph of a purported fire-starter. A thorough and painstaking decryption of spider-thin scratches in a burnt-out notebook suggests that his name is something along the lines of Willard, a name which here means ‘a desire to be brave’. His motives remain uncertain, though further investigations bear the promise of enabling volunteers to understand the perspectives of his fellow fire-starters.
Kit Snicket at 19. Curious, eager, lethally trained, and perhaps traumatized. Sources agree, however, that there was something subtle yet unnamed about her that never failed to mesmerize.
Lemony Snicket, dismantling every communication device in his temporary residence. His right hand was bandaged due to an incident with a bat that carried a decidedly negative message, which it relayed by giving the writer a decisive bite to the hand. To this day, Lemony remains uncertain as to what that message could have meant.
