Creation Tapestry, c. 1100. Embroidered in wool and linen on a wool background, 12’ x 15’ 8". Currently in the Gerona Cathedral Treasury in Spain. Source.

“In Gerona, the Creation Tapestry, made with linen thread against a wool background, depicts a beardless Christ as Pantocrator in the center of a compositional wheel, filled with scenes from Genesis, including the Days of Creation, the Creation of Eve, and Adam Naming the Animals. In the corners, symbols of the four winds turn the wheel, suggesting the movement of the days. On three sides, marginal representations of the labors of the months and emblems of the annum and solstices continue to convey the passage of time. Curiously, in the bottom margin, the legend of the Discovery of the True Cross is shown. Although it is not certain where or how the tapestry was originally displayed, its complex iconography reveals a belief in the enduring lordship of Christ from the beginning to the end of Creation.” (Snyder, Art of the Middle Ages, 258)

Gustavo Eznarriaga “intellectual artist” who imposes his interests, who creates sculptures where the human figure, the animals, the plants, fruits, landscapes, objects, tell us about the quotidian.Slender, expressive figures, that connect Pop Art, the new figuration, the classic world.Figures that see-saw between reality and the dream world, that bring back to memory childhood objects, figures, forgotten images.Representations that come close to abstraction and the surreal world.Representations, symbolical evocations of absent realities, evocations of the visual and also tactual.

Another painting, la Habitación de Van Gogh (The Bedroom of Van Gogh). When we tackle the collaboration between Toni Montero and Daniel Peribáñez, maybe we should talk about a three-way collaboration: Vincent Van Gogh – Peribáñez – Montero; or has uncle Vincent left these two boys (Toni and Daniel) alone in his guest-room and of course they have messed about, the Room in turmoil, everything scrambled but eith a lot of style.

A boy in his mother’s arms while his father, dressed up as a harlequin, looks at him absorbed. Two characters, one in the centre of the painting, the other at the back to the right balancing on a ball, ball from another world? and the one sat to the right we have also seen in another place, and the staring monkey who looks older and wiser, also. They all bring with them parts of the spaces they have inhabited, like memories of places where they have been.

Circus Tarot / Circo Tarot - 2010 by Romanie Sanchez Smele

No other ibicencan artist represents the cultural mixture of Ibiza like Romanie. With an English mother, a Spanish father, living in a pages house surrounded by fields and forest, away from it all but in a place like Ibiza, 15 minutes away from everything.

In the young Romanie coexist the earthly Ibiza, the contrasting seasons, months, moons, of the island; the Ibiza that knows its birds, that recognizes the aromatic plants of the forest and finding asparagus and mushrooms. The cosmopolitan Ibiza full of “paradise seekers” and people arrived from other places, lands, with their stories, their life experiences, their beliefs. The Ibiza we here call “phoenician” trader, individualist, pragmatic. And the touristic, the madness, the great orgy that becomes Ibiza every Summer and by which we are surrounded.

In my current artistic moment, I use the outcome of the primary images obtained with this new technology, later transferred to the work project to be operated, built in perfect harmony with photographic images or interpreted in a traditional manner, with different painting techniques, oil, acrylics, stamping on paper, canvas or other materials or, sometimes, printed by any means which would allow serial reproduction.

———————————-

VECTORISM

The term Digital Art, Vector Art provides digital imaging, which will not be formed by pixels, but from mathematically defined vectors and the basis of a series of dots and linked these by journey linear form polygons and monochromatic surfaces that shape the image that is sought.

Jesús Albarran - Infanta Margarita (Velazquez)

Walter Benjamin affirmed that “that all document of culture is at the same time a document of barbarity.” Popes, princes, and kings with absolute power, exerted despotically and even with cruelty, entered posterity associated and thanks to the artists at their service, artists sometimes anonymous and that rarely left a self-portrait.

With the arrival of photography more than a hundred and fifty years ago, apart from other factors – democratization of society and the techno-industrial revolution – visual artist became well-known stars, recognized around the world.
Artists that enjoyed a freedom of creation they had never had before and that promoted a visual revolution without precedents.
But lets remain in the Present…
