This week is a very special episode for Most Things Kenobi, as LeeAnn and her dear friends Derrick and Corey review their amazing experience aboard the Star Wars Galactic Starcruiser. During this in-depth conversation (which DOES include spoilers!), they’ll describe what they thought of the experience, including hits and misses, how they were able to book the Galactic Suite, and even reveal some pro tips for the best experience if you ever decide to stay aboard the Starcruiser. And, of course, they’ll describe plenty of personal stories and even some tender moments shared between them over this truly one-of-a-kind adventure. A special shout out goes out to our other friends who joined us on the Starcruiser, including Leslie, Kristeen, Dan, and Greg. We couldn’t have had the amazing stay we did without everyone who made up our group and shared in the memories we all made during the stay. It’s one of our lengthier episodes, but we wanted to provide a clear, unbiased, and informative rundown of the experience for everyone to enjoy! To hear the full length interview, and to view photos and videos from the experience, join our Patreon: www.patreon.com/MostThingsKenobi

I recently thought of an issue with Galaxy’s Edge I’ve seldom seen discussed: how freaking emptyit is between the marketplace and the Rise of the Resistance entrance.

I mean, I know it’s that way to accommodate the size of ROTR’s show building.  And, theoretically, a long stretch of greenery could be a “relaxation zone” between the hectic areas around both ride entrances.  However, there’s not any benches or picnic tables to facilitate such “relaxation”; everyone’s just expected to trek right through that area on their way from one end of the land to the other.

It’s a really weird and frustrating design choice, and it feels like a waste of space in a land (and, on the west coast, a park) that is already so low on that resource.

Thematically, the tie-in novels provide a clue: The Resistance Outpost is supposed to be waaaaaay far out hidden in the woods, away from Black Spire city.  However, I’m not sure if the novels were written to explain the gap in the land, rather than the land reflecting existing canonical story (the books are specifically written as tie-ins, after all).

And even if they did commit to using valuable park space to reflect a canonical location… why can’t the woods at least have some benches or something?  With how crowded the park is becoming, quieter rest areas like the much-missed Court of Angels could be well appreciated.

Okay, so looking in the notes I saw a tag that said “It’s fucking Project Stardust!”, so I decided to look that up.

So, Stardust was their initiative to make walkways more efficient and guest-friendly throughout the park. While in other areas, that was implemented as removing planters and changing stroller parking to make walkways more accessible, in Galaxy’s Edge they decided to implement it as… one giant empty walkway.  Which doesn’t even make sense for accessibility or guest flow.  Both overflow queues for the attractions go AWAY from the walkway in question, so it can’t even serve as overflow space.

I think the imagineers might legitimately not have known what to do with this space!  And didn’t even think to throw some benches along the side so at least it was *something*!  Given how money hungry Disney is, you think they’d have thrown in another few souvenir carts or food stands even!

My other alternate theory: this would have been the space for the canceled 3rd attraction planned for the land.

Management doesn’t want guests sitting down and resting their feet during their downtime; they want them in the shops spending money.

Galaxy’s Edge as a whole is lacking in good places to sit down that aren’t active eating area’s. It’s physically very tiring being in there for a prolonged period of time.

Exactly!  I hate hanging around Galaxy’s Edge because it’s just *exhausting*; there’s no place to sit!  Batuu West finally added a few more cubes to sit on, but it’s still not nearly enough for the size of the land.  And the lack of ability to sit and take in the detail really hurts the place too; it feels like a place to be sped through rather than a place to appreciate details or theme, despite this being one of the most highly themed places Disney has attempted to create.  It’s a self-defeating artwork.

And the shops are too crowded and small to even accommodate the push towards merchandising locations too.

What perplexes me about The Empty Road is that it’s somehow neither relaxing, efficient… OR commodified.  If money-hungry Disney had lined it with souvenir carts, I’d get what they were doing.  But instead it’s just *nothing*.

You know how there’s infamously “meetings that should be emails”?

Galactic Starcruiser is a “resort that should be a video game”.

Like, it seriously missed its ideal medium there.  An explorable ship with branching story paths where you play as your own Star Wars OC would have been awesome as a game, much more accessible to the public financially, and still would’ve probably raked in $ for Disney.  Plus, the distribution of the game could also serve as a promotional tool to attract visitors to Batuu, which would certainly be a playable level.

I know that some of the appeal of Starcruiser is its “live action video game” aspect, but that really doesn’t seem sustainable.  Not only is it expensive on Disney’s end to operate, but also, unlike a video game where parameters are easier to establish and maintain, I can easily see a bunch of jerk guests who don’t want to play along ruining the experience for others.  And given the price of the experience in question, a ruined trip seems like a nightmare for both the paying customers and the poor customer service staff that have to field their complaints.
