ARE YOU TAKEN SERIOUSLY?

Firstly i’m sorry i’ve been so damn quiet, uni has really really snowed me under D: BUT On the topic of uni i’ve just started a project where i’m going to work performativly with peoples responses to a personal prompt. For this to work I not only need lots of responses but I also need responses from people of all areas of society.

The prompt is centered around being taken seriously. Any response to this is helpful!

I can be anything, a one line response, a drawing, a recording, a short story…anything. If you choose to help you can Message me, send me an Ask, Reblog this, Tag me, anything that gets through to me via tumblr.

I’m working on ideas of how to reward people who help me and i’ll be posting up the final work probably in video form in about a month so you can see how your response has been included. Please share if you can and thank you so so so much in advance if you help or share!

I think I’ll have to extend my thesis deadline until the autumn….

basically my supervisor said she was really impressed by the amount of work I’ve managed to do in such a short amount of time, but that she recommends I submit it in september instead so that I have time to work on it properly, and I agree. she said I could still manage to finish it now but that it’ll be incredibly hard to get a finished product which will be done well enough to get a good grade if it passes. I do want to submit as good of a thesis as I can, especially since I am thinking about going for a phd or at the very least continuing my studies in the future (not in the next five years tho), so I think I’ll just allow myself this one setback in order to be as happy with it as I can. I’m not doing much this summer anyway. might resume my freelance work tho but nothing else

I think I’ll have to extend my thesis deadline until the autumn….

so what am I supposed to write in the remaining 20 pages of my thesis then

I’m gonna go through and edit my thesis today and I think it will also help me see what’s missing which is good

you know what? I’m gonna be real about my experience writing my MA thesis for a sec. I’ve been too scared to go into details in case my method of writing it will make people think I’m stupid, but I also think it’s important to share one’s experience (if you yourself want to ofc) because it will probably soothe a panicked undergrad and that’s all that’s ever helped me when I’m stressing

I’m getting a masters in literature studies in sweden and we had to give a vague idea of what we MIGHT write our thesis about the first semester of grad school. we also got our supervisors before the end of the first semester, and I talked to mine before christmas break. since then I’ve gotten to talk to her 1-2 times a semester about my idea, but it’s never been too detailed. my biggest thing is that I gave her the impression that I was working on it more actively than I was, despite us not having to actually START until the fourth semester. I was always thinking of it tho, which I count as work. sorting things out in my mind etc

then came this spring semester and I was struggling to juggle the thesis with freelance work (since I didn’t work during my previous semesters) and I fell behind. it didn’t help that I started questioning the hell out of my idea. with not even a month to spare I finally found myself being able to properly work on it, having paused my freelancing to focus on it. despite not having many words I was almost always reading and researching, which is why I wrote half my thesis in like… two weeks? and I still have half to go. I’m not sure I’ll actually make it, but I’m writing this to share that everyone works differently and for me I needed to sort things out in my mind and do research without actually writing for a while. I mean, it was also very hard to start writing in general, but now that the deadline is so close I’m working faster than ever. and obviously I’ll need to edit the hell out of all of it, but I’m finally making visible progress, you know? and if I don’t manage to finish it this semester they’re super okay with us sending it in next semester. I just want to say that it’s okay and however your process looks is good as long as it works for you. is writing 70 pages in three weeks something I would recommend to others? god no, but the work I did behind the scenes helps me immensely now. I know myself and how I work. it’s gonna be okay

This week:

  • Read my classmates’ dissertations so that I can participate in the seminars where they defend them. Three for tomorrow and two for Thursday. I’m half a dissertation down so far
  • Finish working on the last thing I need to do for work before the newspaper takes a break for summer
  • Read Heartstopper volume 4 which FINALLY arrived
  • Watch Stranger Things season 4

Ideally I’d like to do all of this today since I’m at uni all of tomorrow and most of Thursday. You see my dilemma since I can’t possibly do all of that in one day lmao

Also:

  • Grab drinks with my classmates on Wednesday. First time we all hang out due to covid lmao

  • Help my friend move on Saturday

hiiii this may be a long shot, but are any of you English as Second/Foreign language teachers that have experience teaching online lessons? It could either be completely online/a hybrid system/or only online during covid restrictions, the only requirement is that you’re a teacher and have taught online.

I’m doing a survey for my Master of TESOL dissertation that is looking into the impacts that online learning has for ESL students’ motivation in regards to speaking. I am currently looking for 1-2 teachers to pilot my survey before I apply for ethical clearance. It’s a mix of short response/multiple choice and would take no more than 10 minutes to complete.

If you fit the criteria I’m after, and would like to help a struggling postgrad student out, please send me an ask !!! Thank you~

A follow up: I have the pilot survey live for anyone who is applicable! All answers are completely anonymous and will help myself and my supervisor see if these questions will be sufficient while we wait for ethical clearance!

Originally I was looking only for a few people for the pilot, but after discussing with my supervisor we decided to extend it to anyone who is willing to help out!

(The pilot will be live for the next 2 weeks)

here’s the pilot survey link
