Reading Little Women has inspired me to learn more about Louisa May Alcott. I’ve been reading articles about her, watching videos about her. I would love to visit the Orchard House one day. I love researching authors, especially those in the 19th century. It’s fascinating to learn things about them, like how Louisa May Alcott had famous friends like Henry David Thoreau and Ralph Waldo Emerson.

Mini Review: Pride and Prejudice and Zombies, ⭐️⭐️
I love Pride and Prejudice. I also love zombie. So a book with both? Um… Yes please! So did they work together? My answer is yes. Was this book written well? No. Did I enjoy it? Yes. Do I wish it had been written by someone who actually understood and appreciated Austen? Yes again.
I’m giving this book two stars, one for the butt-kicking Bennet sisters and one for the occasional funny moments that made me laugh out loud.
But here’s the thing, the author did little to adapt the content. Yes there were Zombies thrown in here and there, but the addition of Zombies did not affect the plot at all. Which you would think it would with all the undead walking around, but I think my expectations were for a retelling and not a less-nuanced rehash of Pride and Prejudice.
My biggest complaint is what WAS changed: the characters. I think the author only barely grasped the characters Jane created, and as a result, they made decisions that were jarringly out of character. They just felt lazily put together–like Mister Collins was short and fat which is how he was portrayed in the movies, but he is tall in the books. And there was promiscuity thrown in that was, again, out of character and unnecessary. Same with characters reacting violently to situations which made no sense at all.
If you love Jane Austen, don’t read this. Got to a book store and have a laugh at the illustrations. If you hate Jane Austen, don’t read this. The vast majority of the novel is too close to the original (and not even written as well) for you to enjoy it, and to be honest, I laughed just as much reading the original as I did this book. I do however, plan to see the movie because at the end of the day it’s still Zombies and Mr Darcy so I can’t say no.
