wallace and gromit

Every year I keep forgetting just how much goes into the production of this simple list video… and I’m knackered.

Yes, it’s late but between still buying toys up until December 31st and struggling with the Aussie heat this was always going to take a little extra time.

2021 was a decent enough year with some cool stuff as well as some frustrating buying experiences.

Haveyoumet Monster?
Might we introduce you to him in this delightful stop-motion animation clip, animated by the team behind Wallace and Gromit and narrated by Michael Palin.

image

Monster—created by Ellen Blance and Ann Cook, with illustrations by Quentin Blake—taught many young people how to read in the 70s and 80s. He was so good at it that he even got his own animated television show—well, a pilot—that was created in 1983.

Those were simpler times, but we’re bringing Monster back in a new treasury called Meet Monster: The First Big Monster Book(May), which collects his first six adventures. Blance and Cook pioneered a new way of allowing early readers to be confident in their skills, by basing the Monster stories on stories children themselves suggested, and by beginning with a simple vocabulary that is gradually built up and broadened.  And from our own recent experiences watching children interact with the stories, it’s a system that teaches, even as it brings joy.

Has Wallace from gromit ever had American cheese? Would he accept it like a real cheese or would it incur his wrath

wrath, unquestionably. wallace in general loves all cheeses, true, but we can extrapolate what he enjoys in any given cheese based off his favourite, wensleydale.

wallace looks for multiple things in a cheese, and most well-received cheeses are known for their ability to accompany snacks (wensleydale in particular has a very light, sweet flavour, perfect for accompanying things like crackers and fruit). american cheese lacks both a lighter dessert-like taste the way things like wensleydale and brie offer, and the sharper flavours of things like cheddar and gorgonzola that are meant to be key accents to an entree. wensleydale (and most other cheeses) owes its richness to the high fat content, whereas american cheese has been almost completely stripped of it.

wallace would initially be on board for american cheese, given that it is pre-sliced for convenience and readily affordable, and he would be willing to give an underdog cheese a chance (wensleydale was a failing company before it got the wallace bump after all), but would quickly find it lacking in everything else he typically looks for in a cheese, from its fat content to its uniform texture to the fact that by the time you’ve carried it out to the park for a nice cheese picnic on a warm day it’s already melted.

“wallace would respect your decision to like a food he doesn’t” wallace literally broke off an otherwise perfectly healthy and loving romantic relationship with a woman the second he found out she was allergic to dairy. wallace does not fuck around with cheese.

If Wallace and Gromit had been made today do you think it’d have a big fandom with people thirsting over Wallace

I think more people would be thirsting over Gromit which is still a terrifying thought
