A little preview of a new spoon carving that I’ve been working on. I actually started carving this Kingfisher spoon at the end of last year and and it is taking forever to carve. The concept and design of the piece is based on some beautiful blue spalting that I found within this piece of Silver Birch wood though that’s almost disappeared whilst I’ve been carving it.
Sorry that this is the first ‘work in progress’ shot for a long time but I’ve been reluctant to share any shots of it due to the ongoing issues with Facebook scammers using my photos to sell fake copies of my work… though I’ve now pretty much had to give up on fighting them as it was becoming a full time job and Facebook aren’t interested in protecting the copyright of individuals (yes, I’m still seething with rage about it!!!).

I started carving this Tree Kuksa / cup thing so long ago that I can’t recall how long it has haunted me… maybe two years or more (If you’ve followed me for a while you may have seen it in the background of other posts). Having returned from a week in the woods I’ve decided to try and finish carving it at last, along with a few jewellery pieces that I’ve left partially carved over the past few months.

Been meaning to post this but finally done on the sign. It’s out curing right now with the final coat of weatherproofing polyurethane. Since it’s going to be an outdoor sign cant have the weather ruining it. It’s entirely wood burnt. I thought about carving around the outside of the dragons to make it pop more but I feel I’d ruin it if I did since I’m a novice at such things. Good practice tho since it was first time wood burning something.
