Eighteen is supposed to be the age when you become an adult. When you are complete. How can anyone feel finished by now? I don’t even feel started. I haven’t done anything, I haven’t been anywhere.

Maybe we were mad that day. Maybe some of the things that seemed to happen didn’t really happen at all. Maybe many of the things that seemed to happen in the days and weeks that followed didn’t really happen. Maybe it was all because we were young, and because being young is like being mad. Maybe just being human, at any age, is a bit like being mad.

But maybe the best things that we do, and the best things that we are, come from madness.

books read in 2016 - 2017: the last boy and girl in the world by siobhan vivian

We’ve been told that all good things must come to an end. Even things that feel permanent. Stuff that maybe we take for granted. Like this town. Or for me, my mom. So how tightly are we supposed to hold on to the stuff that we love? Really tightly? Or not at all? Should we be sad when they go away? Should we fight? Or is letting stuff we love go inevitable, like the old adage says?

Human beings are more or less formulas. Pun intended. We are not any one thing that is mathematically provable. We are more or less than we are anything. We are more or less kind, or more or less not. More or less selfish, happy, wise, lonely.

I loved this book! I love Christmas, I love cheesy Christmas movies and the music and everything about it. If you feel the same way, you’ll probably love My True Love Gave to Me.

Very few of the stories weren’t insta-favorites for me, my favorites being the ones by Rowell, McEntire, White, and Foreman. I wasn’t crazy about Carter or Black’s stories, but they didn’t take away from the greatness of the other stories.

This book covers so many different characters, with different lives and views of Christmas, therefore being the perfect book for anyone. You can find a character to relate with in at least one of the stories! Mine was defiantly from Rainbow Rowell’s. (Which isn’t very surprising since I’m pretty sure she’s stealing from my life to write all her books.)

Basically, this book is perfect and you should read it this Christmas season!
