i guess it’s not really surprising, is it, that Crowley, the person who’d been banished and tossed away, whose entire identity for thousands of years was predicated around being “cast out,” whose arguably most important contribution to human history was tempting Adam and Eve to be cast out, would assume that leaving, getting out, was once again the only way to cope with Armageddon.

But, then, it also fits that Aziraphale, the guardian, the one who was put at the gate of Eden and told to STAY, would plant his feet in one place and refuse to move. Of course he’d cope with Armageddon through stubbornness, a stubbornness that gives Heaven far too many chances but still never abandons the world.

In the end, Crowley’s contributions were mostly about motion, going, leaving the garden, moving forward, encouraging change. But his character arc resolved with him staying with Earth, finding a home, finding a world from which he’d never be cast out. And Aziraphale’s contributions were mostly about staying, stubbornness, caution, being protective, avoiding danger. But his character arc resolved with him leaving Heaven, diving out of its cold and uncaring halls into a less-predictable, more-loving world where the things he loves can flourish. And they landed together.

i’m thinking tonight about masterpieces. michelangelo looked at the sixtine chapel and saw; nothing to preserve. virgil wanted his aenid burned and forgotten; only to be saved at the behest of an emperor who thought it flattery. kafka instructed his friend to burn everything he’d ever written - too personal was it, too unfinished.

they were ignored.

instead, their work was taken and held and published and thrown to be gawked at. instead, an emperor, a pope, a friend, took from within the cavities of them their choices; their art.

tumblr rolls out post+. twitter rolls out tip jars. youtube takes half of what creators earn. on social media, there is a ko-fi or a patreon and a polished face in every bio. i show my poems to my mother and she asks if I will publish them before she says anything else. emily dickinson instructed her sister to burn her poetry.

her sister did not listen.

we are a community, says tumblr, we should give back to creators. my last poem had 50 notes. six of those were reblogs that weren’t mine. i lie in bed at 2am and stare at my bright phone screen and the way netflix’s library grows thinner and thinner. the first ad on tumblr that i can reblog is for amazon. amazon takes more than half of what authors earn.

kafka’s friend took barely finished work and hammered it into structure. he is the only reason we know of him.

my father wrote a book and a play when I was barely big enough to reach his knees. when i try to talk to him about writing, he shrugs.

no one wanted to publish it, he says. so i don’t write anymore.

i am filled with poems I have never published, books I haven’t written. There are little snippets of them scattered throughout my life. I link to my ko-fi on my tumblr.

asked capitalism of the artist: what is art, if not for consumption? who does art benefit, if it is not consumed? why create at all if you do not market it? who are you, frothing at the mouth about someone publishing someone else’s poems? who are you to hate your magnum opus? what is art, if not in relation to its reception? if no one sees it, how is it art?

said the artist, baring their teeth: it’s mine.

this is something i think about far too often. and i suppose art deserves to be shared etc, but i also think about an artists right to privacy–right for who they want to share it with.

i mean, one of kafkas friends was given an instruction, and thus given permission to view these immensely private works, only to ignore instruction. kafka didnt want his work to go unacknowledged entirely, it was just for himself and his FRIEND. I think about this with tiny sketches done by van gogh in his bedroom, or how art museums preserve and collect sketchbooks to display alongside more FINISHED works and as lovely as it is to see as a consumer, as a creator, as an artist, nothing feels more invasive than having a sketchbook on display; than having a rough draft handed over to someone.

maybe drafts resonate with people. maybe tiny unfinished sketches do too, but its….not theirs to resonate with.

i write and i make and i create things constantly that are for no one else and when i make the decision to share its not done carelessly. i get upset when i share privately and its suddenly made public.

i love emily dickinson, but im quite certain i would be okay had her poems not been published. im quite certain i wouldve found another poet to attach my umbilical cord to, and another work (that wanted to see the light of day) to connect with. there is nothing to missif you dont know it exists. but emily, is probably rolling around in her grave, shaking her head, hiding because weve all read her diary.

reading trc from gansey’s perspective and it’s an aurthurian tale where each character is a member of the round table accompanying a king on a fated quest…or reading trc from ronan’s perspective and suddenly each character is a biblical disciple following a jesus with a back tattoo who performs miracles every day…or reading trc from adam’s perspective and now each character is a card from a deck with a psychic dealer carefully flipping them to achieve the most fulfilling outcome…or reading trc from blue’s perspective and now it’s a flawed protagonist in a coming of age story surrounded by archetypical characters slowly breaking down their tropes…depending on where you began the story…

i feel like the infantilisation of autistic people in the eyes of science and psychology really stunts them when it comes to talking about some of the issues that come from being autistic in a world built for nt people. like i dont think ive ever seen substance abuse rates discussed wrt autistics because thats an “adult problem” and the public at large has an image of autistic adults as overgrown kids, despite the fact that almost every other autistic adult ive met has had a history of substance abuse issues at least partly in response to the stress of existing in the world as an autistic person. like if youre constantly beset on all sides by stress and sensory overload of course youre going to gravitate towards drugs and alcohol and things that smooth over those sharp edges, make socialising easier, etc…

Dead fandom this, dead fandom that, fandoms nowadays are so fickle and fragile. As long as new people are growing interested in something and people are still making fan content for it, the fandom survives. Everyone who says the Tangled fandom is dead and The Owl House fandom is going to die soon are a bunch of quitters or attempting to kill it themselves, especially when they delete their fan content. Do better, guys. It’s unnatural for a fandom to die, especially only a year after a much-beloved show comes out.

Anyways, Gravity Falls lives forever and the fandom will never die. And we’re all pretty undead in Danny Phantom fandom. And, as far as I’m concerned, the Tangled fandom is still alive and well. The Owl House will be FINE.

Stop killing your fandoms, people. Think of the kids that will watch the show and then be disappointed that people are calling it a dead fandom. Do better.

would love to see people including cleaners + customer service workers + workers who have other such precarious jobs with very early/very late working hours in chat about restructuring the working day to avoid having to go to/from work in the dark. but alas it is all about the 9-5 mon-fri 30k+ a year to send emails crowd, as ever

it’s not that i think office workers with stable, salaried jobs shouldn’t be advocating for their labour rights, or that those sorts of jobs aren’t exploitative; it’s the fact that embedded within this discourse there is always a process of naturalising certain notions of ‘legitimate,’ visibilised labour vs invisibilised labour rendered automatised; and, invariably, these conversations fall down hard on this process of naturalisation.

when we talk about “the” workday as though we all have one shared collective understanding of what “the” workday entails, we relegate the sorts of jobs i listed above to the background – to the realm of automation where they are at once excluded from a discourse of so-called 'legitimate’ labour organising because the organising in question is so unbelievably myopic & they maintain the social infrastructure needed for the highly fetishised 'leisure time’ to be made possible in the first place. there’s already a case being made for the four-day work week on the basis that it would 'stimulate’ the economy of the leisure sector – ie. put more pressure on customer service staff. this is what these discourses miss – have you considered the ways in which more leisure time for you impacts the work of the people whose labour is at once necessary for this leisure time and reduced to systematic invisibilisation and dehumanisation? ofc not lol.

btw if you don’t believe me about the automation thing try and pay attention to how office workers talk to eg. coffee shop staff :)

and like – this discourse should be about us first, sorry. we’re the ones who often can’t afford the cars and public transport that make travelling to/from work in the dark safer. we’re the ones with jobs that often can’t be done in constant daylight hours. you may want to shorten “the” work day, sure, but what about the infrastructure that you want to be in place outside of your work hours? what about the people who have to work in your bars, pubs, nightclubs, theatres, cinemas, etc etc, until long after dark? what about people who work night shifts, what about people who work early mornings? all of this labour is invisibilised so the discourse elides it completely; and a shorter work day for office workers means harder conditions for non-office workers with no financial compensation for the fact.

to use an anecdotal example – i’m a cleaner, i work early mornings, sometimes i have to come in even earlier than usual because the building where i work might be hosting a late-morning event so they need me done and out of the way by, say, 9:00am. i work relatively short shifts (as do most cleaners) and i live a 40 minute walk away from my workplace, so i generally walk to work because public transport is expensive where i live and the ratio of money spent on bus to money earned on an individual shift is not sustainable. (the buses also don’t run early enough for me to even get them to work on weekends, and the days when i need to be in at pisstake o’ clock are always saturdays, lmao.) in the summer, this is fine – in the winter, i can expect to be walking through poorly lit residential areas in the pitch black at 5am, 6am, five or six days a week, which is not pleasant and not safe! a politics of labour organising that advocates for my transport to be paid for by the company that hires me, for example, could alleviate this. or, to get wildly imaginative, we might even put pressure on businesses to organise their little events around making sure their cleaners have access to public transport at the time they’re being asked to come in such that they can get to work safely. but when we create a discourse where there are “legitimate” working hours/working days and there is labour that happens invisibly in the background that scaffolds both these legitimate working hours and the leisure outside of them, people slip through the cracks. you can get to work at 10 instead of 9, but i can’t. what are you going to do for me?

what it boils down to for me, is – could you, right now, tell me the name of your office cleaner(s)? do you know their pay, when they work, if they have fixed or zero-hour contracts? does the company you work for arrange their cleaning staff such to make unionising impossible? does your company hire its cleaners directly or are they hired through an external cleaning company, and do you appreciate the difference that that makes in terms of workplace alienation? i go to cleaning as an example because it’s what i do, but the same is true of other labour forces – what are the labour practices of the cafés and pubs and bars and restaurants you frequent? how do you treat the staff when you go in? do you tip? do you know where your tips go? do you ask? if you’re not going to stick up for the people who clean your workspace when their hours are precarious and unsociable and their pay is unlivable and their work is invisibilised to the point where people forget they exist, then i’m not clear on why i should be sticking up for you.

anyway, i guess in closing i would just say to take all of this with a big grain of salt labelled 'i think the proletariat should own the means of production anyway’ should you so wish, i guess.

In modern times, the Ides of March [March 15th] is best known as the date on which Julius Caesar was assassinated in 44 BC. Caesar was stabbed to death at a meeting of the Senate. As many as 60 conspirators, led by Brutus and Cassius, were involved.

We have 10 DAYS to strengthen a Brutus and Cassius, and bolster the resolve of Russian dissidents. I think small daily workings leading up to a large one on the 15th will probably be most potent. Our focus is mutiny - let’s direct all the Ides of March energy that’s been collecting for over 2,000 years into one narrow ‘Et tu, Brute?’ focus.

The Assassination of Julius Caesar | William Holmes Sullivan

Mutiny means:
* Russian troops peacefully surrendering
* discontent oligarchs who’ve had enough
* a betrayal within the inner circle
* average, ordinary civilians rising by the millions
* [insert your own idea in a reblog!]

Pick a target & aim. We’ve got 10 days. Increase pressure every day.

People aren’t gonna like hearing this but the practice of boycotting internet spaces genuinely only makes them worse, and then everything wrong with them spills out into the rest of our culture anyway. The people who avoid reddit or twitter or facebook or anything because of their toxicity probably outnumber the toxic users a hundred to one. If even just my own tumblr follower count went over to 4chan to post exclusively positive and nice things it would easily bury all the notorious bullshit. If you can find a use for a free public website, just use it. No amount of user boycott will actually hurt any of them so people may as well exploit their utility for better purposes while they exist, rather than constantly shrinking and hiding from the trolls and creeps. It’s your house too.

I think something important to me about both LS fics and Lukanette fics is that if Marinette is currently dating Adrien and used to date Luka or vice versa, it really breaks immersion if Marinette had a bad breakup with the one she used to date. That’s just not the vibe. Neither of those boys could ever be salty toward her and they’d be far too sweet for her to be salty toward them. LS fics where Luka is just hanging around in Marinette’s life all chill, or Lukanette fics where Adrien is still good friends with Luka, are the only type of LS fics or Lukanette fics I can read.

i’m just thinking about the moonlight scene and the Jenkins interview yesterday about Stede being an unwitting seducer and it just makes the scene so much more enjoyable to rewatch. From Ed’s perspective this guy is pulling the smoothest moves of all time, like the most forward, i’m about to sweep you off your fuckin feet lines, looks him right in the eyes and tells him straight up “i’m gonna make you fall in love with me rn.” And it COMPLETELY works on Ed like he can’t even breath he’s being so actively seduced. And even though Stede isn’t doing that on purpose at ALL it’s almost even MORE effective because he’s being so authentically genuine and truthful that he is just exuding pure kindness and love and insight into Ed’s soul. It’s just so funny to me thinking about how Stede has absolutely no idea what he’s doing to this man in that moment.

And it paints all future interactions with them with a completely different brush because one of them is consciously aware of the VIBEZ and one of them is only subconsciously aware. Ed thinks Stede knows what’s up so he is purposefully flirting in all their little moments but hesitates to do anything outright because he’s getting mixed signals from Stede, he just doesn’t know the mixed signals are because Stede doesn’t know that Ed knows that he’s feeling a vibe and Stede himself doesn’t even know what the vibe even means for himself.

It just really subverts the power dynamic that you would expect from this naive sunshine man meeting his broody hero. Stede holds all the power here and he has NO idea that he has Ed wrapped around his finger. Ed wants to leave bc he’s afraid of the intensity of his feelings and the mixed signals from Stede and Stede is like “no <3” and puts on a cute outfit and takes him on a walk and makes Ed stay. Stede says he doesn’t like Ed’s personality around CJ and Ed is so gutted he leaves FOR STEDE not for himself but to spare Stede from himself. While they’re being arrested Stede literally just SMILES at ed and ed signs his entire life away for him.

I just think keeping all of this in mind is so important to understanding why their break up is SO melodramatic. Stede has unknowingly taken Ed on this emotional rollercoaster and he’s been at following around Stede at his feet like a puppy dog just WAITING for a sign that this is real and Stede isn’t toying with him so on the beach everything finally falls into place for the first time and Ed can finally just RELAX he isn’t crazy and the power dynamic has shifted so that they are finally on the same page, he doesn’t have to feel like he’s just pining anymore, they are equally in love and that is so reassuring and validating. AND THEN HE LEAVES. That is such insane emotional whiplash and he was wrong the whole time and he feels like a fucking idiot and he must be SO FUCKING CONFUSED. Because the moonlight scene it seems like Stede is being so fucking crystal clear about his intentions and how could he have possibly got all of this wrong, and he ws right the whole time because Stede kisses him back and agrees to run away but actually no he was WRONG the whole time but how??? and yet it also goes back to that exact same scene where Ed tries to kiss him and Stede doesnt return the energy where this dynamic becomes so unbalanced and murky

to this person in the tags of my lil vent comic, I mean this with all the love and understanding possible:  it is only a curse.

you might think “if I didn’t tie my self-worth to my creations, I wouldn’t be so good at what I do!”–but if that’s the case, does that mean you onlywant to get good because you feel it gives you worth?

if no, then I suggest trying to detach your work and your worth.  only do what you want to do, when you want to do it.  you havean internal drive to improve–no need to fuel it further with insecurity and risk driving yourself to burnout.

if yes, then I suggest the same but even louder.  it’s only a curse.  you are more important than the things you make, full stop.

i think a lot of people have become obsessed w labelling every single thing theyve ever felt or thought and i dont know how that happened. like both in the lgbt community and with ppl who are pathologizing every single thing like “if you read books as a kid thats a sign of trauma” like… i promise you dont have to put a name to every single thing i promise not every single thing is a different sexuality or a symptom like

Ido know how that happened.

These people grew up with every part of their life affected by experiences that no one else believed were real. This caused them a great deal of pain and suffering. Therefore, they like to have a large portfolio of proofs that their reality is as they say it is, to protect them from getting disbelieved anymore.

Similarly, many of them did not know growing up that other people did not experience the same things they did, so they like to tell other people about their experiences to see if they are the same or different, and to make sure others won’t have to be confused and scared the way they were.

Make sense?
